That is correct, but it is also for petrol. It is a high spec mineral oil with really good cleaning properties. The clever guys on this forum say it is the best oil to keep those ticking "tappets" quiet by cleaning the oil passages.

[quote="RoelfleRoux"]Hsmnel,
Oil and filters.
I stripped the high pressure fuel pump (part No MD367152) from my 2000 Pajero's 6G74 engine. Can anybody give me the contact detail of a place in Gauteng where I can have the pump tested? I'm in Beira, Mozambique and it is a touch difficult to trailer the vehicle to a good workshop.
My RSA number is 083 952 5299 if you can help.

my 415000k pump is failing: difficult starting, surging at speed.
my choices are new dealers pump for R7000, new pump from Mitspro for R3000, used pump from Part Hunt for R1700.
so what made you strip your pump? is it worth having it pressure-tested?: if it is faulty, where will you source parts to re-build?
looking fwd to reading about your progress

Hi Lock. I think the pump under discussion is for a petrol engine.

Hi Barry, the obvious solution is to fit a new pump. First I have to find out if it is the pump that is causing the problem! How? Test the pump.
I have since spoken to a clever guy who advised that I only replace the second basket filter (which I missed!). I have done it and will install the pump this week-end. Will let you know if it works.

'the 2nd basket filter' : you mean the mesh filter in the tank on the suction side of the pump?
and you say there a 2nd suction filter? where is it?
I have since renewed my filter on the pump discharge ; no change to my symptoms: no pump whirring sound when ignition turned on; reluctant cold starting until pressure builds up; down on power on high speed inclines

summation of my fuel pump story:
symptoms were reluctant cold starting; reduced power at in high gear; no whirring sound at ignition-on.
my choices where new dealers pump for R7000, new universal pump from Mitspro for R3000, used pump from Part Hunt for R1700, new Bosch universal pump from Diesel Electric for R1200; new japanese universal from Breno Auto Parts for R250 (!?)
decided against universal; got a new pump from Part Hunt R2000; perfect fit.
problem solved: starts instantly; power's back where it's needed.
in the pic 3 you see new & old side by side:
the rubber foot had worn away completely; that was the black silt i discovered in the supply line filter, having passed through the hard/nylon suction filter.
pic 2 shows the rubber mounting foot
