Found the cause of the choppy ride and awkward rocking motion that sometimes result in violent trailer swinging .... the air helpers have a single valve with a T-piece and undulations cause the two air bags to "box" at a frequency of around 0.5 hZ. It should be illegal to have connected air helpers as it makes for a diabolical ride!

I'm getting an isolating valve fitted tomorrow along with a full length track-mounted roof rack and Brad Harrison charging cable.

Thanks for posting this feedback! I've always had reservations about the single valve system. Air from the bag being depressed (when cornering etc.) will flow to the other bag and that cannot be ideal!

Makes absolute sense. I travelled behind my Pajero last week. I thought it looked a little bit "wobbly". I'm sure it is the air suspension. I have separate inflaters, so I can imagine the impact if air could move between them as well.

Got my car back from 4x4MegaWorld this afternoon and I can 100% confirm that linked air helpers are positively evil. After fitting second inflator valve and pumped at the minimum recommended pressure of 0.35 bar the ride is plush and predictable, with no excessive body roll or noticeable rocking.

Best of Louis and the rest of the guys at Menlyn 4x4MW did this at no charge while fitting the roofrack. Despite what others have said I found these guys helpful, professional and good value. I would recommend them without hesitation based on my personal experience.

4x4MegaWorld in Nelspruit fitted my airsprings. I found their service super friendly and very professional. They are expensive, but it was my choice to accept the quote or not.

On a resent countrywide trip our best 4x4 by far left us stranded after the first 200km. This gave us the opportunity to pack all luggage over into my wife’s Gen3 Auto SWB 3.2 (Kortesdikkes) and immediately tackle the trip. While still on the trip we “blindly” bought a LWB 3.8 V6 Gen4 (also auto) with 76000km on the clock and had it delivered home only to see and drive it 3 weeks later - this to take the place of the best 4x4 and to do the future long trips. Where you have gone from petrol to diesel we have gone the opposite way. Just love the power of the 3.8 V6. It is quiet and no diesel fumes to come in by the windows when stopping to take photos. The Gen4 still needs a lift and the dash stabilised before we can do Namibia or any long trip. But to answer which one is the best should rather be; which one you love the most: The wife is keeping her SWB – it just feels that we are going to keep Kortesdikkes forever and maybe later replace Langeswittes when needed – if that answers the question.

Francois, you now have my perfect two car garage . I'm not sure where you live but myself of John.G can help with the dash, a much better fix than Mitsu does. John is in Bloem and I am in Joburg. Let us know when you want it fixed.

I know what you mean with keeping Kortdikkes forever. They do become part of the family later! But give Langes a chance. I am sure it will do the same, especially that v6 petrol!
