Re: Excessive floor heat in Gen 3 3.8L while driving
Jacob,
Thanks for getting back.
Just to be sure: the CAT is still in, but the small silencer is out?

Correct. At first I thought it was the CAT, but once I removed it, I noticed it was just a small silencer box. As my problem was floor heat and not fuel consumption or anything else I decided to just remove the silencer box and leave everything else as it was.

Re: Excessive floor heat in Gen 3 3.8L while driving
I find my Gen4 LWB has less floor heat than my previous Gen3 SWB (both 3.8). I would rather keep the small box and reduce the size of the big one (for better ground clearance) - although floor heat is still an issue, even though it is much less with my LWB.

But not just now - the old beast has been dipping into my piggy bank of late and I just want to stop the spending for a while

Have you ever had to replace the alternator or starter on the 3.8?

Nope, I bought new tyres, shocks and a few suspension bushes.

I had to replace both in the last year. Its unfortunately the 3.8L biggest flaw. Parts are very scarce! The 3.8 uses its one alternator design instead of the 3.2 did and alternators and starters are very hard to come by.
