Re: Availibility of spare parts.
Mitsubishi in Rivonia, it's a multifranchise so look for the Honda dealership in Sunninghill. John is still there from the parts department.

"Apparently they have to strip it off the assembly line. Go figure."

Not sure how true that statement is. The vehicles arrive in SA fully assembled or almost fully assembled (maybe fitting a few SA options).

As an aside, we recently had a Hyundai truck that we had to write off. Not because of the repair cost, but Hyundai SA quoted a minimum of 4 months before the spares would be available! To their credit, they did offer to strip a demo truck for the parts, but the client refused as his truck was almost brand new.

The statement is from the trade.
The source of the problem is the motor assembly industries's "just in time" way of doing business.
They don't keep stock and spares arrive daily to keep the wheels turning. A very good business principle due to the savings that can gained from it.
But the local franchise must be reputable enough to keep a certain percentage of spares.
Incidents like this should be published so that franchises can be punished with reduced sales.
I am sure that owner did not replace the written off truck with a Hyundai.
Btw the panelbeater owner told me he is waiting 4 months for a new Fortuner windscreen.
So the industry is not supporting the customer.....
