Hi,

I just returned from a 6000 km trip in my "new" Gen 4 (2007 model) and must say, in all aspects save the rattling dash, it is an improvement on my previous one. I was especially surprised by the improvement in fuel consumption, as this one is larger with a bigger engine, and automatic.

The rattling dash was so disturbing, that I used my arm as a shock absorber by pushing against it for many km's, fearing it will land in my lap. Driving on bad roads with one hand is risky so I took it slowly. As soon as the roads got better (i.e. not corrugated) the dash went silent again - thank goodness for that, as I thought it would be a rattlebox after shaking so badly.

If someone knows of a place (in W/Cape) where I can have this reinforced, it will be greatly appreciated (I do not fancy putting my hands into the dash yet).

Anton

Tonton, the dash can be sorted. I can't help you with contacts in the Cape, but can encourage you to not give up.

Sorry gents, just a repeat of what i mentioned in another thread.Forgot about this one I posted the dash bracket fix in.
Although the bracket eliminated a lot of the shake it was not the full proof fix.
Well i am glad to say i think this time I have definately found the fix,no question.
I am just looking for a local (bloemfontein) pajero owner who I can test the fix on to make sure it works. But my dash is really and truely as solid as i ever could hope.
I drove a corrugated road and could not get the dash to budge
Will keep you guys updated

Hi Chris.Hope all is well.
If you come past Bloem sometime in December or whenever come stop.I will do it free of charge.I think it will be good to have the support brackets and the new fix.In that way it has 2 proper fixes and places for the force distribution.
The new fix just makes the fix complete

I had a guy on the ausie pajero forum test my new fix ons his vehicle. It seems conclusive that I have found the solution to the gen4 dash shake. He tested his and said he saw absolutely no more movement in his dash.
When I get some time i will post a lengthy how to for all to read.

A heart felt token of gratitude would be the very least that I could offer.

I experienced the dash shake when I hit a pot hole and my wiper switched on.

Will try it and hopefully all is well in Pajeroland again

Thank you for all your time and effort to put this to rest.

Took a Saffer to show the world how it's done ;)

Hi Guys,
This became a new topic for me as I have thought I must just grin and bear it.
However, two events changed my mind.
During a visist to the Kgalagadi my Nikon IS binoculars stopped working - these I normally put on a cut piece of thick rubber on the dashboard.
And the cd player stopped working as well - out of warranty off course.
I now have a suspicion all of the above is due to the dash rattling so badly - the wipers would switch on by itself.
I used to ignore this as it never developed rattles when back in civilisation on tar roads.
Point is what would happen if the dash instruments fail due to this?
And what about the airbags? Probably the most important aspect of it all!! What would be the long term effect on it?
I have a swb Gen 4 2012 and spend a lot of time in game parks every year.
Not driving tar roads of course ;-)
And my Pajero must be able to handle it!
Was the support brackets replacement not a jap Mitsi instruction to their dealers?
Is it time to tackle them the USA way for hiding design issues?
Any thoughts on this topic would be most welcome.
