My GLX came with Bridgestone Dueler H/Ts. Changed them at 55,000km (could have made 60,000). Great tyres and the first I have ever owned with no punctures. (I'm a farmer so that's amazing). I do about 80/20 so liked old tyres but not happy in Mozambique in sand at 1,2bar.Looked at all options inclusding 4X4 forums. Eventually got best deal from QuikFit PE and fitted Dueler
A/T for R1,700 ea. Did another 5,000km trip to Pomene, Moz last month the difference on sand was amazing fully loaded with 5,2m boat. The All Terrain tyres are also quiet on tar. Very Happy.

Gerrit Loubser wrote:I have Geolander AT-S tyres on the Paj (GO-12 is the tyre code) and I have been very, very satisfied with them. They are quiet, have good wet road grip, and have given me 105000 km of great service with regular cross rotation (every 15000km or so). They surprised me with their performance off the black stuff as well (in sand, on rocks and so on). I can only compare directly with the more road based Geolander GO-39 tyres that the car had on as original equipment and the AT-S tyres comfortably eclipse them by performing just as well on the road (as far as I can tell) and beating them by a country mile in the rough.
I really need to replace the Geolandars now, and would fit another set of AT-S tyres without hesitation, if I can get them at a price that I can afford.

That sounds like a deal! Just a couple of questions:
* Is this on the AT-S?
* What size tires are these?
* Who has this special?
I managed to find The Yokohama AT-S (GO-12) for sale at R1550 per tyre for 265/70R16 at the local Maxiprest dealer (I think they call themselves MAX Tyres or something these days). I fitted four of these and am very happy and probably set for the next 100000 km or so. Those tyres are seriously good value at that price in my opinion.

My bit of input on tyres here.
My company vehicle 3D4D Double Cab came out with Grabbers. I am not so sure about the grip part as I experienced a lot of planing in the wet , easy slip on mud even wet grass and on sand more or less the same thing.
I have since changed to Pirelli Scorpions .
Good handling , super quiet on the road, good traction . BUT will not do very well as a serious off roader in the sense that the sidewall thickness and load rating is defenitely less tha BF's. I have had over the years about six bakkies from Drifters to Toyota. At every oppertunity I get I change to Pirreli. I get good mileage on them - anything from 70 000 upwards. I dont brake hard and do not corner hard, This will all influence tyre wear and lifetime as well as loading.
I live in pothole mecca and has not lost a tyre yet.
BF'S are renown for feathering as well as duelers.BF's do have a strong sidewall I will admit but in my opinion for serious off road. More in the range of 80/20 off road on road.
My Duelers have developed cracks longitudinal to thread two tyres resulting in replacing all. I have BF's available but just because I got them for free and will use them till replacement due.
The best is to establish what your vehicle do day to day and what ride quality you expect. Obviously a softer tyre will give better ride quality and a hareder tyre will give a more bumpy ride as is my experience with BF'S.
one of my colleagues has Hankook on his bakkie and he is very happy with them so far and he has done over 50 000 already with about 20 000 to 30 000 to go before replacement. Regards

Hi everybody.
No advice as to brands but rather where to buy. Check this franchise concept. They'll come to you and fit at your location. Any brand!

I personally made use of them when I had to replace the rubber on my "Platcar" Not sure if the whole of SA is covered at this stage but it's worth having a look!
Cheers
