Gemaskerde Tuinvurk is right, the spacers on. The Pajero due to the fact it has independant suspension will mean it will increase the clearance under the Pajero as well, this is typically not possible with the solid axle 4x4 which would only raise the body.
Ok that means the 45mm spacers would lift the whole chasis including the diesel tank, gearbox all which look really low?

Hi Josewf,

The spacers are smaller, the resulting lift is 45mm and will raise as you queried. How often do you intend driving trails like this, you may need a few mods :-)

Ok so the monocoque pajero is lifted completely whereas the 80 series landcruiser on the trail I noticed the housing, diffs stay the same clearance only the body is lifted? Is it coz it's a ladder frame chasi? So the only option for them to get clearance for the housing is by increasing the tyre height?
I hope my understanding is correct?

David I'm really scared to take my paj again on such trails unless I get it lifted, add extra protection plates , good MTs, and I need to find out y I din't had any engine breaking on the slopes! U think it's only coz of the wrong tyre selection?

Hi Josef,

My view on offroading is as follows :
"As slow as possible and as fast as necessary", under those conditions ( I have never seen so much mud, but would love to try) I would use the same, however more momentum may be required, which could mean damage. Looking at the othe vehicles they appear to be more modified for the conditions.

I have a few questions for you though:

What mode did you drive this route in?
Did you use auto or tiptronic?
What were your tyre pressures? (OK on HT's not much difference expected but every bit of traction helps)
What are you typical 4x4trails like, will these be common, if so some mods are really necessary

Looking at some of the pics, there would have been damage to other vehicles, they have been adapted to suit these conditions mostly.

I have the same issue on steep slopes with not enough stopping power, try pulling handbrake up 2 click, and see if that helps.

You have to learn to walk before you can run, looks like you went straight to running :-), and that is cool too but now need to get some things fixed. I would suggest doing the same route with a helpful person and see what they do, watch their line and ask questions, will learn a lot from a session like that.

It sucks to have damage, but I also don't do trails with cowboys either, still do some pretty tough routes, but intention is to have fun and not break the vehicle or cause any major damage, also some times too many ego's can be dangerous and feel pressured into something you are not comfortable with.

Cheers

David

Most of them had serious underbody damages, some had lost the front bumpers, one vehicle toppled on the slope.the slush part u see with the ribbon on side of the track was from day 2 speed competition event. I dint had to take part as I was broke down day 1 itself:)

I was not fast at all only crawling speed with 4LLC tiptronic on 1st and 2nd
Tyre pressure was 28psi all round yes that's on higher side but I needed all the extra height :)
This trail is wayanad wild trails and in monsoon it gets very tough..common trails are just rocky terrains..

I'm not taking the paj unless I mod it..

Josuf

I must say welcome to our Sunny SA Pajero Site - although at the moment our country seems to be swathed in mud over the last week.

If I may offer my opinion and with respect. Take a careful look at the vehicles you are attempting to do these trails with. Many of these look to me to be heavily modified. Look closely at these mods and consider whether these mods are worth the effort and the money. The Pajero is not suited to this competition type offroading. If you want to stick to Pajero and take part in this kind of thing then get a good second hand Gen2 SWB and modify at will.

Don't get me wrong, the Pajero is a very good offroader, and with my Gen2 even I walk away from obstacles (or even trails) if I feel the risk is not worth it (and I have done some hectic trails).

But as said by all these wise people before me in this thread, consider the following:
1) Get rid of those HT tyres, and fit decent AT or even MT
2) Add proper protection underneath
3) Replace rear bumper with a steel offroad bumper
4) Add the spacers

Hope this helps.

It seems that you had quite a rough weekend. I would suggest that you google African Off-Road Academy and have a look at their 4x4 accredited training programe. Currently they are running a discounted TETA Accredited 2 day theory and practical programe. If you have any queeries you are welcome to contact me on 0829058657. Neil.s
