I have BFG Km2 Muds on both Pajeros. Sure they are noisy, but the traction is out of this world off road. On the wet it does very well. I have a heavy foot even when wet and never had a slip because of wet tar. The older set I have has done about 50K Km on mostly tar and they will last to about 80 or 90K km (Guesstimate). On my gen 2's I have the normal standard suspension and 32's fit. on axle twisters the front rub a bit if you turn full lock, but just slightly. with 50mm lift 33's will also fit i hear.

My suggestion would be to fit MT's and a amp for your radio. Sub will be awesome too

I have a 2001 Did SWB which was fitted with 265/70/16 'Grabbers' when I bought it 4 years ago. I switched to BFG AT 265/75/16's about 18 months ago and am extremely pleased with them off road and on tar. I have not noticed any additional road noise and the grip on tar feels better, even in the wet. The fuel consumption however, has risen slightly. I also have a lift kit and there is ample room between the tyres and the wheel arches.

Hi guys

My time for new tyres is coming closer very fast. Looking at the Hankook Dynapro as well.

What type of mags is on the Pajeros in the photos. Looks much nicer than the originals.

Cheers :D

Hi all,

Thanks again for all the input. I've realised again that tyres is no easy topic and probably a tradeoff like most things in life ;)

My biggest concern with muds (considering my use and driving style) is road noise. Noise however seems to be a very subjective matter - perhaps some of us just hear better than others.

I've realized that the only way I would be able to decide for or against muds, would be to test it before I buy.

Can anyone pint me in the direction of about someone with MT's (BFG KM2 if possible) on a Gen 3 in Cape Town that would be willing to take me for a on road test drive ?

Hmmm, I'll be in Sodwana in a few weeks time, maybe take a swim there We can go for a test drive on and off road if you swim there from CT.

@ Wessel
I will be in Alexander Bay in 3 weeks time. Maybe swing past after you hooked up with Marius in Sudwana? 8-)

Hi all,

After many different opinions, threads and insights,I decided to bite the bullet and see for myself.

I decided on the Cooper STT's, holding my thumbs that I won't experience the same vibration / resonance that Gerrit had.

I went up from 265/70/16 to 265/75/16. Got the tyres came for R2320 each (fitted and balanced). Best price I could get on BFG AT's in the same size was around R2900, which helped with the decision.

My main concerns were:

Safety - Had a Cape Town cloud break the evening I had them fitted. Wasn't driving highway speed, but braking and cornering was fine. I would however be on the cautious side and watch speed and following distances in wet weather.

Noise - big relief :D . You can definately hear the tyres, especially around 120 km/h, but fortunately no vibration or resonance. It is something I can live with, although I am sure some people will be bothered by it. I am aware that they may become noisier as they wear and intend to rotate regularly to minimize this effect.

Fuel consumption - taking the altered odometer reading into account, it looks like my consumption would have gone up. Difficult to say though, since I've done a sand trail with high tyre pressures.

For those consider taking the leap, take into account that I have heavy duty OME coils and shocks fitted (probably not necessary for the larger tyres, but sure helps.)

Have a West Coast / Namaqualand trip coming up in less than 2 weeks, so cant wait to test the tyres on gravel road etc.
