Re: Gen3 3.2DID Trouble starting - glow plugs? SOLVED!
The problem is solved!: It was the starter as pointed out by Freek over the phone. The Pajero did not want to start at all yesterday and the starter completely stopped turning - I could only hear the solenoid clicking.

I replaced with a recon starter (R1600 + shipping) from Mitspro and man, it never started this easy before. Sweet music to my ears. Mitspro shipped the starter @ 16:00 from Pretoria yesterday afternoon and I got it in Nelspruit @ 08:00 today.

Symptoms:

*Sounds like the battery is slowly dying on you over a week or two. The battery stays charged, but the starter turns slower and slower each time. The motor takes longer to start.
*Also might seem like glow plugs that are not heating up good enough.

Cure:

* Buy a new starter from dealers at horrendous prices.
* Buy a reconned starter unit for +/- R1600.

Thank you for all the help and advice to date, it is much appreciated. Also, thanks to Mitspro for the service and advice.

I have exactly the same problem, starter labours, sounds like the battery is flat, starts fine in the morning.
Can you send me the details of where you got your reconditioned starter motor from?
Thanks

Craig, you can contact Freek Snr. at Mitspro in Centurion: 012-6442732

They might have a recon unit on hand and will courier it to you upon payment (+/- R1600 + courier). You then need to send back your old one as part of the agreement. They sent mine late that afternoon and I got it 08:00 the next morning in Nelspruit (using Dawn Wing Couriers if I remember correctly).

Mine also started fine (or better) in the morning, but thereafter it got progressively worse later on in the day - why I don't know.

I hope it sorts out your problem - keep us informed.

Re: Gen3 3.2DID Trouble starting - glow plugs?
Funny enough i am just experiencing the exact same problem. Initially i was thinking that the glow plugs went, as they come on for a split second and when i crank the enjine it takes up to 4 turns before starting, at some point the enjine management light came on, luckily i found your thread, i will most definately try out the starter refurb route. Just had a long trip to moz. When i check the load on battery it seems fine and while the enjine is running it charges arounf the 14 v mark.

Bought a starter at Autozone, R 1400 fitted myself, no labour. Starts smoothly now.
