they are monroe gas shocks.

I haven't driven any other gen3's but they made a difference over the old worn shocks.

go some new rubber after I had a high speed steering wobble and discovered that it was egg shaped tyres.

I installed a sony frontloader into the gen3. What a joy to have a decent radio in front with front aux.

hooked the trailer for the first time since I gave it a new lease on life.

A bit dirrrrty but hey. My driveway is 4km of dirt.

Looking forward to the first holiday trip with the new rubber and the trailer - still thinking about building a custom roof top tent for it.

Did you install it yourself? If so, did you use a harness adapter and were you able to pick up the power antennae line?

Yes I installed myself.

I spliced into the existing wires with crimp lugs so I can return the factory radio if I sell the car one day.

My aerial was broken anyway so I wasn't worried. It currently has an antenna just pushed into the hole but will be replaced with a whip pretty soon.

had the catalytic converter removed a couple weeks ago. Haven't seen any improvements in economy yet. ECU may still be learning or the gains are too small as the cat looked pretty good for nearly 280'000km. No blockages at all but on shaking there came some loose parts out......although that may have been the drop from the hoist.

fitted a bash plate to protect the diff, engine and gearbox sump.

Had a 6mm plate lying around that I had been eyeing for awhile. did some quick measurements and dived in. It weighs over 20kg so it's beefy. I'm sure it's weight will be compensated for by the more efficient aerodynamics on the undercarriage as the previous bash plate is long gone.

All went well. Only tricky thing was to remove the gearbox support member to drill holes for the securing bolts. Luckily I knew the process as I did it not too long ago with my gearbox flush and filter replace. I probably managed to take it off,drill the holes and put it back in under 20 minutes.

I will feel a lot safer now on the dirt road with kicked up rocks etc. but especially for that eastern cape passes trip I have planned.

I took the shorter scenic route back from Shalene's father back home.
