My gen4 dash is also rattling heavily...dealer has no clue Abt brackets

As mentioned previously, I'm going to be upgrading my Gen3 SWB to a Gen4 LWB or a Gen 3 LWB soon, so the build quality of the Gen 4 is of concern to me. I'd like to go for the Gen 4, but don't want any step back in quality from my Gen3
I'd like to do a poll to establish whether these are isolated problems wit h the dash, or if it is on all Gen4 models.
Can this forum do polls? I don't see the TAB which allows Polls to be set up. Or does one need special permissions?

Ok ok... some clarification and perspective is needed. I think the issue has been blown slightly out of context (and I realise I am partially to blame for it).
The gen4 dash issue is more of a Mitsubishi customer service issue. Does the dash tend to rattle more on the gen 4 - yes it seems so, but:
- mechanically this vehicle is superb (Marius can come in here)
- the interior is fantastic - I test drove many Gen3s and Gen4s before buying. Test drive one, find some uneven road surface and decide for yourself.
- my vehicle has almost 100k km on the clock, and ive done some extreme corrugation for days at a time - the dash was noisy, but has not broken.
There is a fix for it: support brackets - mitsu midrand quotes about R2k to have it done. Feedback seems to be positive from those ive spoken to, but I think that is what the poll should be on. Mitspro said they are keen to install it - I will be doing it at my next service.
My experience: I drive my car as an every day car and for overlanding. 35000km in the last year, with about 12000km overlanding. The corrugations were noisy, but the car has remained without issue. For everyday use, the dash is no issue.
Unless you spend most your time driving corrogated roads, its a non issue. And seriously, Id gladly pay R2k (it might even be less at Mitspro) to sort out this out to make a fantastic car even better.

Again, this is a mitsu customer service issue...
Not sure where you are based, but take your car to mitspro and ask freek to tighten the dash or to install the brackets.

Thanks for the clarification
I am just concerned that the brackets might not really solve the problem... RoelfleRoux has installed the brackets, and still not happy.
I'm sure the Gen 4 is a great vehicle... and I'll also use mine daily to the office and for overlanding.
I rally think I need to find a Gen 4 and take it on a dirt road... Any offers in the Cape?

Masker,
I agree with your notion that we mustn't blow this out of proportion - and I did feel a pang of personal guilt in this regard when I read your post.
BUT:
1)Fitting the brackets - doesn't matter who pays for it - helps, but not by much.
2)I traveled to Nelspruit this morning for new boots on Bigred. It is a brand new tar road of very good quality. I could identify at least four different rattles in my dash on that smooth road.
3)After fitment and alignment, I saw the tech take the car out for a test - I almost fainted: "What on earth is the guy going to think of my car with all those rattles?"
YES, it doesn't impact on either the safety or reliability - so "where is the big deal" we can ask.
Here is the big deal: I drive a wonderful car with amazing all-round ability and a reliability pedigree as long as my arm and a motor that gives me goose pimples when I stir it up with my right foot, but I am ashamed to either transport a passenger or to have a techy take it around the corner. I don't even want to drive 1km dirt road in the Kruger to check a drinking hole.
I wanted to only replace two tyres this morning and then two at a later stage, because two are still in very good nick. I gave the car one look with two new and two old and asked the guys to please replace the other two as well. Such a nice car doesn't deserve to have only two new tyres.
That is how I feel about my car. I'm beyond caring who or for how much, all I care is can it be fixed, whether it be tyres, fuel or the dash board.
Is this a passionate post? Yes, I suppose it is. Do I feel less of a Pajero guy because of this thread? Obviously not.

Roelf,
My dash has had a few rattles from day 1 (second hand don't forget) - I fixed these with some storm seal tape from builders warehouse... 3mm wide. I sat thumbing the dash and located the sources, mostly around the cubby, then, shoved the storm seal tap in there nice and tight...
Problem solved! except for an airvent flap... GRR!
Hope you come right!

RedCat,
"storm seal tape"... consider it bought. I run my car with a completely empty cubby. Any weight in the cubby makes the rattle there 1000 times worse.
Problem is there is a very bad "heavy" rattle behind my instrument cluster. The dash will have to come out for that to be found and then fixed.
During our Namibia trip in May, we ran about 1200m on dirt roads. I am pretty convinced that the massive shaking of the dash caused severe damage to the joints. The dash will have to come out and all the joints redone with new clips (have a look at the diagrams Marius posted for us). One would imagine liberal application of "storm seal tape" will also be required at those joints.

Roelf, your issues after the bracket fix sound worse than mine currently before fix...
Maybe the dash is broken somewhere? Have you had it checked out by someone other than Mitsu? (they might not be as thorough for fear of a warranty claim)

Masker,
No, the only work done on the dash was the bracket job after the 75k service.
I'll see what Simon achieves with Mitsu. I don't want to even start to pretend that money isn't an issue, because that would be a lie of monumental proportion, but I don't want to fight with Mitsu over who pays. I want a technical solution.
To sell my car now and buy a Prado will lose me more money than any dash repair job can ever cost. Also, if I had wanted a Prado, I would have bought a Prado.
So lets find the right solution between here and the manufacturer and then fix the problem.
