I know this is a bit behind time but we were away for two months.

Re, Unpacking to change a flat tyre. One of the mods that I made for my Pajero is to make a bracket for the jack (after installing a long range tank in the "gat") so that the jack now fits in behind the spare wheel inside the bracket. Reasoning behind this mod: You have to remove the spare so why not place the jack inside the spare wheel bracket. Works like a charm and no reason to unpack the whole Paj to change a wheel.

Another bit of info re your flat tyres:

I always carry a few cans of HOLTS Tyreweld emergency puncture repair gas cylinders in the Pajero (also in the Cobra as well as the Audi). There are places in Southern Africa that when you stop to replace a wheel, somebody will arrive and relieve you of the whole problem and you will only be left with one problem - How to get to the next town and how to return home without a Pajero and money.

I have used it a few times and they work perfectly for small punctures.

The next option is the old 4x4 plugs. It looks horrible BUT it works and you can repair a big hole with the plugs - even if you have to use a few plus to fix it. Still faster than changing a wheel.

I carry tyre weld and plugs, but the location was so convenient and safe that we opted to change wheels

The Jack inside the spare wheel is a good idea. Just for interest, where did you store the wheel spanner and safety nut? I'm also trying to make life easier and not more complicated by moving things where it suits me.

I have in the past carried the jack and spanner in the trailer nose cone. Problem is to remember to transfer it back to the car once camp is setup.

Still "working" on a good/practical solution. For the time being, I store them under the "gat" cover. One only has to lift the cover a little bit to reach them.

I'm Ruan and this is my first post on this forum but I would really like to share. I went with my friends to do Van Zyl's pass in Namibia last Dec and what a great time it was. We had a mixed group of cars well 1 Pajero(Mine) 1 Jeep Grand(Very hard on Fuel) 2 Toyota Hilux and 1 Fortuner. It was a 3 week trip covering 8000 Km of which 6545 Km was dirt road or worse.

Lost two Tyres(could not be repaired) and also learned why you must carry more than one spare. Luckily my friend's Fortunar's spear fit so I could get to town.

Before we left for Namibia I bought an electric jack from Adendorff which is supplied in a nice case that I loaded on the roof rack next to the Pump and the Tyre repair crate. The wheel spanner fits into the Tyre repair crate.
