For what it's worth:
My first Gen4 (2009 LWB GLS) had the original Rockford Radio and the Dash rattled like crazy but only on corrugated dirt roads - lower tyre pressures were the order of the day and helped bucket loads.
My Second Gen4 (2010 LWB GLS (New Spec)) came with the Caska Unit as standard. The dash is rock solid - all through Lesotho and more, everything was fine! I have a niggling little squeak at the back in the load bay on tar roads but that's a different story!
Don't know if that helps anyone?

This is interesting. I have a 2010 GLX with Casca radio and the dash jumps up and down on bad roads to the extend that I thought it wants to climb out of the car. Not to sure what the brackets will do but I am of the opinion that it needs support in the middle

Have you guys all seen the Mitsu response on a different thread?

Hi Guys,
I did some more reading on the Aussie Pajero forums, see the link below...
http://www2.pajeroclub.com.au/forum/sho ... hp?t=25494
They have very similar comments to ours

So it seems like what we are experiencing is pretty normal.
I think it is very subjective and difficult to compare - different drivers, different speeds, different tires, different tire pressures and different corrugations.
I know my friend's Fortuner is quite a lot smoother/quieter over corrugations but less stable (as if they don't track the road surface fast enough)

I suppose the Fortuner is better isolated from the chassis (well, it has a cab rubber mounted to a ladder chassis?)
My overall impression - and this is just my opinion

- is that maybe all monocoque Pajero's are pretty much like this... Gen 3 and Gen 4. I don't find my Gen 3 very smooth on corrugated roads. Maybe it is more obvious on the Gen 4, which is quieter (i.e. one doesn't notice it on the Gen 3 as much, as it is less refined and noisier)?
I remember the first time I hit HEAVY corrugations - I was very surprised at the rattles/shakes at low speeds - higher speeds were MUCH better (but sometimes one can't drive fast). But on the excellent dirt roads in southern Namibia, it is super stable and smooth - last December, I was amazed by the grip and handling of the Pajero on those dirt roads (especially with M/T tires, deflated to 1.6bar).
Cheers
Greg

Greg,
I'm with you 100%.
The grip and handling of the Pajero has never been in question.
That leaves me with my three options above. Logic suggests that I do (1) while I ponder (2) before taking a leap on (3)

Again, this is a mitsu customer service issue...
Not sure where you are based, but take your car to mitspro and ask freek to tighten the dash or to install the brackets.
I'm from India. I told mitsu guys Abt the brackets but they have no clue.
Can someone post pics/drawings with measurements of the support brackets please?

hi Fellas! Hope you're all healthy!
So my wife and I joined my family at Mabula for the annual family time-share trek to the bush. Those that have been there will remember the 20-odd km sand road to the gate. Thanks to the okes with Makoya Moolah (Big Bucks!) at Zebula, had a lovely smooth tar road has been laid down now so that part of the drive is really nice and smooth now. However!! the roads inside Mabula are corrugated quite badly and my dash made me want to scream, loose my temper, rip it out and chuck in the fire! then piss on its ashes! And this affected my golf game too! shot over 100 on Zebula (What the EFF?)!
Anyway, after i calmed down at the 19th with my father and uncle (both Disco 4 drivers) mocking me about the dash, I decided to think about the variables and see what could be done.
So, i had my dad push hard against the dash while driving in Mabula and about 80% of the noise and shakes went away. What I noticed was that the internals were bloody loud still. I think i've narrowed it down to the CD player internal parts.
Roelf, the brackets - they did reduce the amount of movement of the whole dash right? if so, then the rattles you remain with, they're obviously components within the dash.
The dash is still quiet from the storm seal rubber tape, but i noticed that the plastic dash inserts (silver plastic on my GLX) were very noisy still. No prizes for guessing whats being glued down this coming weekend!
I think i'll get those brackets, rubber line the dash, glue the dash inserts down solid, and just have to live with the rattle-ey radion unit components.
Failing these - bon-fire at my place. Bring Chops, Dops and Dashes!

Redcat,
The letter from Mitsu is spot-on, where they don't really recommend going for the "field fix" (which is fitting the brackets). The reason is that the strip/assembly of the dash will probably leave you with more (internal)rattles. I think that is my situation - and if the dash is really shaking less, it isn't by much.
Will you be getting the brackets under maint plan? I suppose not, as the GLX is only covered by a service plan.
Here is my recommendation: get the brackets fitted, but try to put pressure on the tech to take his time and to do a carefull job of re-assembling. I don't know how you will achieve that, but if you fail the car will be worse.
I think I have given up. I tried to trade mine in on a new Treg - only offered me R210k (2008 with 80k on the clock), so I refused to continue with discussions.
After our mountain trip this past weekend, have I not even bothered to wash that handsome red beast of mine - I just couldn't be bothered. When we went up a badly rutted steep zigzag climb did I not even try for the best line, I just kept my foot steady and left the fancy driving to the T/C computer. In other words, for the first time in my life am I feeling buggerall for my car.
I'm just going to see where this whole thing is taking me, for the rest am I enjoying the good sound system a to drone out the rattles (I'm luckely from the hard rock era, so cranking up the volume is just fine

)
If you can find a tech that can strip the dash, fix joints and stuff with blackmagic and get the rattles to go away, I promise you I will drive to him (anywhere in the country) and allow him to fix mine as well. I won't say "at any cost", but am almost saying it.

What a pity! I love my car to pieces! but not if its going to fall to pieces! i guess i can live with the bouncing dash, but those rattle will force me to drive at hellish speeds, or crawl along every sand path. i don't know which is worse!
In Lesotho recently, we came across a Disco 3 with a puncture and the driver had lost his wheelnut key. It was getting late and the snow was coming is so I offered a lift to his wife and daughters

--- after about 1km of considerate driving, i was so embarrassed by the noise i put foot. My wife went dead-quiet (meaning she'd given up giving me looks about the speed) and focused on the horizon... the ladies in the back shut up too and were holding each other in a scared hug sort of way. They though I was being a show off, but actually i just trying to get the dash to shut up so we could all have a conversation! The dash shut up last!
