Roofrack Gen3

Seeing Elbgeo's post today - it reminded me of my own RR. My previous Gen 2.5 had gutter mounts on the Frontrunner rack.
How does the permanent rail footings work on the Gen 3? Do they have to bore holes right through the roof, or does it simply bolt into the existing roof rail's holes? Some oke told me they have to remove the inside ceiling and then bore holes through the roof - this does not sound right to me.
I want to convert the gutter mounts to permanent roof rail mounts or buy the right fittings to permanently fit the rack on the roof rails.

I got a african outback roofrack fitted the other day. Yup, they have to take the roof lining out to put the rails in though its not such a big deal, took them a morning to fit. I was going to attach a roofrack onto the existing roof rails but the full system gives some peace of mind that it is strong enough to take a load.
So far am very pleased with it.

I also have a Gen 3 with roofrack fitted by Safari Center
They have to remove the ceiling to get get to the bolts that hold the rails; undo them, and use the same bolts to secure the roofrack fittings

JDV, so I take it that the holes are existing and they do not have to drill new ones?

I have the Gen 4 with an African Outback rack fitted by 4x4 MW- they took the rails off, fit a new "track" where the rails were, using the existing holes and drilling nothing new and then fit the rack in this track. So no new oles are drilled.
