Entabeni on CDs ruined by sand in 2006 3.2 DID

Entabeni here. We forgot to take extra CDs on a trip through the Kalahari Transfrontier Park to Namibia so had the same ones for the whole trip in the Mitsubishi 6-disc player! The roads in the Kalahari F P are in a shocking state being heavily corrugated, particularly near Mata Mata. In Namibia they were much better, though somewhat broken up between Solitaire and the Kuiseb Canyon.
On removing the CDs at home it was clear that fine sand had got into the player. All 6 of them had an opaque abraded area near their edges and similar patches scattered and some scratches over the rest of the playing surfaces! Now some wont play on my Technics system! Lucky that we forgot to take (and ruin) more CDs!
Question 1: How does sand get into the Player in the 2006 3.2 DID GLS LWB Auto? It must surely be from below.
Question 2: How does one remove the CD player from the console? It looks as though the whole centre console has to be removed.
Comments and suggestions welcome. Thanks, Entabeni.

Entabeni here again. Maybe I have fixed the CD abrasion problem. Here is what I did.
On Mon 15th I bought the Haynes Repair Manual for Pajero models from 1997 to 2009, petrol and Diesel, manual and automatic. The information is therefore a bit skimpy per model!
On Wed 17th I disabled the airbags by disconnecting first the negative, then the positive battery terminal. Then I removed both front seats and, starting from the rear end, dismantled the centre console to expose the <censored> 6-CD player. So I removed and dismantled the CD machine (no information on this in Haynes!). There was plenty of dust and fine sand which I blew out with compressed air.
On Thur 18th I reassembled the CD player and used duct tape to seal the many holes and gaps in the case through which dust could have entered --- now the only aperture is the CD slot. As far as I could judge the holes were not designed to have any cooling function. I checked with the technicians at Combined Electronic Services to whom they are sent for repair by the Pajero agents and they said they had not tried this fix. I then reinstalled everything and the CD player works just fine, so far! I took some photos.
I would welcome comments, positive or negative.
