Trailer socket wiring loom diagram
Can anyone help with a diagram of the wiring for the standard socket on the Gen 2, 3.5V6 LWB,

I had to replace my socket, and cut the wires with a bit of colour still on, so that when I put the new one on I could see what went where, but somewhere along the way, I lost the old socket,
I downloaded some standard diagrams off the net, and wired accordingly, but now when I apply brakes, my left flicker comes on, and when I indicate left, then my one brakelight comes on.

Sounds like pin 1 and pin 7 are swapped on either the trailer or your socket

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the diagram, I take it this pertains to our Pajeros directly,

I seem to recall that there was one less wire, and that there was a jumper running from the centre pin to one of the side pins (this could also be where my problem lies)

I'll check it out over the week end, and let you know if I have any problems.

Thanks

Some guys links both tail-lights of the trailer to one pin, so a short between the centre pin (7) and pin 5 on the trailer plug will be in order.

I don't like it, because you lose both tail lights if one fuse goes - it thus defeats the object of splitting the fuses between left & right.

And the blue wire on #2 is an extra wire, some wire this up to run a fridge inside a trailer .

They want their heads read if they do this... That wire is so thin it is extremely inefficient

Re: Trailer socket wiring loom diagram
Simon I agree, but I've seen it done. And I have seen that people run a new wire from the front but still use the pin on the connector. Conqueror actually wire their trailers and caravans in such a way, and then add wiring from the vehicle side to charge the batteries while on the move. Stroes Bob, we owned a Companion.
The original point I wanted to make is that pin 2 is an extra pin and that McNoogle should not worry about said pin.

A DC-DC converter/charger should sort out the voltage drop issue  .

Re: Trailer socket wiring loom diagram
Hi Guys,

I still have a problem, it seems my wiring loom only has 5 wires, not 6 or 7, and according to the diagram colour, there is no
white wire (ground on the diagram) or blue (fog light)

I only have Brown, Black, red, yellow & green.

So I'm really at a loss.

Can someone please give me a suggestion as how to wire this, as I'm sure one of these 5 must be the ground,
or should I run an extra cable for ground.
The socket plate is still the original one (as this is most irritating) because the socket mount plate is welded to the towbar extention plate, and thus, I cannot remove the extension plate without cutting/removing the wires) thus, the loom would/should also still be the original one, but I'm not sure, as theres only 5 wires.

Colours mean nothing! use a multimeter or test light to correctly determine which wire is which.
You will most likely have 1x earth 1x left indicator 1x right indicator 1x brake light and 1x tail light. I agree with our friends above you should have 2xtail light in order to ensure good current supply and ensure you only pop the fuse on one circuit if there was a problem.it seems fairly common practice to bridge the terminals but its is not the right way.
With regards to the mounting plate on the towbar, cut a slot in it from the outside to the hole in the middle, make the slot wide enough for cable to slide in and you will find its much easier to work.
