Tinus, the fuel consumption indicator is not functional on the pre-common rail DiDs, because the engine ECU has now way of knowing exactly how much fuel was sent to the motor. In the case of the petrol V6 or the common rail diesels the injectors are electronically controlled, so the ECU knows exactly how long they were opened for and hence how much fuel was actually injected.

Hi Gerrit
I have installed now the new motor. I also fitted the new motor onboard display unit. My question now if the function is on it why would it not work?
I will take a photo and put it on

Tinus, I was under the impression that you found and fitted a 2003 (i.e. a non-common rail) 3.2 DiD motor (as stated in this thread: https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... 377#p14377). None of the pre-common rail DiD engine ECUs have the ability to provide fuel consumption info to the display. That only works with the petrol V6s on the Gen 3 Pajeros.

Hi Gerrit
You are correct by saying that, It is a 2003 DID. That is what so strange for me? I bought that Motor with all the Wiring and the Onboard Display. See photo it definitely have the function

It might have the function but it will not work on your diesel, only worked on the petrol ones for that year if I recall corectly.

That is not good news Thanks Cats. How long do I have to drive in circles to calibrate the Compass?

Did you get the geomagnetic sensor (mounted in the roof, I think) as well? Without the sensor the compass won't work or callibrate.

In terms of the fuel consumption display: although the display unit has the ability to display the info, the old non common rail DiD motor is unable to provide the info to the display, as the injectors are not electronically controlled, but the V6 has this ability. That is why the display unit has provision for it. When setting up the display, one selects the vehicle engine type and if diesel is selected, the fuel consumption screen vanishes...

Hi Gerrit
I fitted the display before the engine was fitted and I had to calibrate the Compass then as well. I did about ten circles and it was calibrated. This time round I battle to get it calibrated. After driving in circles for about ten minutes it still didn’t work.
How do I get it to ask for what type of engine? Do I just disconnect the Battery?

Hi,

Found this in the repair manual about demagnetization of the roof before calibration
