the last month has been a huge learning curve for me.
basically i have only gone off road with the pajero.have done two trails and have spent every weekend in "training".
my thoughts so far is that the most serious limitation of the little car is not having a diff lock.

A diff lock does indeed make a massive difference, no two ways about it.

On the other hand it could be great fun to learn how to get the most out of your car, despite its limitations. Your skill at picking lines will increase all the time. You can start experimenting with techniques like using the foot brake or park brake to enhance the efficiency of the rear LSD. You can also try modifying your suspension slightly to achieve better flex (and hence keep your wheels on the ground more effectively on rough terrain).
