EGT wiring help needed

I have received my EGT gauge in the post.

However. The gauge's k-type coupler grounds on the exhaust and doesn't give a readout.

If I use a separate 12v source passed to the gauge it works beautifully.

Is there a way I can pass independent 12v to the gauge to make it work?

Did the supplier give a wiring diagram?
Post that here, so that we can fully understand your problem.

no wiring diagram attached.

If I have the EGT probe away from the vehicle it works fine but as soon as the probe is grounded (same ground as digital meter) the gauge reads zero.

They sent me the wrong k type probe - it doesn't have the threaded part over it that is insulated from the actual probe.

ie. The probe must not share a common ground with the gauge. I either need to unground the probe

or get another probe

or get an independant 12v to the gauge that doesn't share a common ground between the probe and gauge.

If they sent the wrong probe, surely they have to replace it?

Who is the supplier?

Ebay. I have sent a message but no response yet.

It wasn't very expensive so maybe I should cut my losses and get another from a different ebay supplier

Get a probe from MGL Avionics.

They are not expensive and has a good rep.
