My Pajero is a 2001 model 3.2 Did. It is one of the early Samcor models and according to the booklet, service intervals are 5000km. For most of its life the vehicle has been serviced every 5000km.

Later Gen 3's apparently have 7500 km intervals. Is there any reason why I should continue to service every 5000km or can I start doing 7500 km intervals ?

I asked the same question to the Mitsu service advisor. His answer was that it was possible to transfer to 7500 km if they opened up something in the engine and inspected it. This however could only be done up to 90000km (I think, can't remeber the exact mileage.) Only reason I can think of is guarantee purposes, but at 226 500km that is not really applicable

the booklet was printed in the days of super high sulphur diesel that acidifies engine oil.

Current diesel is much lower in sulphur content.

I use approximately 50% 50ppm and 50% 500ppm and use 10'000km intervals with delo400.

NB: My EGR is also blocked otherwise I would do 7500km intervals.

If you block the egr and more/half of your fillups are 50ppm then I'd say you can stretch to 10'000km.

If you still have your egr system and/or use mostly 500ppm then go for the 7500km intervals.

Good question, I was wondering the same on my Gen3 2001 3.5 petrol, any reason why I can't extend from the books 10K to 15k service interval

I am convinced a DiD that is run on 500ppm (and better) can safely be serviced at 7500 intervals.

My 3.8V6 is fresh out of maint plan and I plan to go from the specified 15k interval to 10k for the oil and filter changes. To me it feels as if 15k takes forever.

You can definately switch over if you want. When mine,on 5000km plan, one was still under motorplan I had the option tobswitch when less sulphuric diesel was introduced in SA. They would make a note on the system and stick a new photocopy service schedule in my book. I however still opt to stay on 5000km services. The in between ones I do myself and just drain the oil and replace with new. I reckon too much fresh oil cant do no harm and should assist in making the engine last longer. It also saves on car wash costs as it gets serviced with free wash so often that I seldom need to wash it myself .
