Wet areas like Nat al and the coast stainless inland mild steel for me. Stainless will just corrode slower than mild steel in wet applications otherwise no difference to speak of

I cant afford stainless.....

But, if the bumper is properly sand blasted and painted within a specified time all over (or better still, powder coated) then it should not rust. Corrosion (rust) will only start if oxygen can get to the raw steel. So, a good preperation / paint job, it shouldnt rust.

If you stay at the coast have it 'bead' blasted

the sand can have grains of salt in.....

which can create small blisters after the paint or powder coating has been aplied as the salt gets 'blasted' into the surface

but if done propperly should last as long as the s/s

After what I know now, I'd definitely go Mild steel,

for the price difference, also an average Bull-bar, you should be able to get Sandblasted, and 2 coats of powder coating for around R600.

With a double layer of powder coating, you don't even need to worry about getting it galvanized.

I would be doing mine now, but then it wont be ready for Next Sunday, as it takes about 5-7 working days to get it all done.
