Pajero Owners Club of South Africa

Had to do a site visit in a rural area north of Bhisho today. While approaching the area the heavens opened and liberally doused the area with rain water. Going down the steep hill "gravel road" I could feel the sideways slip and slide of the Pajero and knew it was going to be interesting getting back up. When i got back to my vehicle the rain had not stopped and I had to park right at the bottom of the hill when I stopped earlier. As i got to my car a bakkie was driving in the direction of the hill (colt lwb 2.0) so thought i would wait at the bottom and see how his vehicle handled the mud on the hill. He got half way up and then bogged down. He tried reversing and giving it a couple more go's but eventually decided to concede he was beaten. So time for the Pajero! Low range, diff lock and auto box and i cruised up the hill with hardly a sideways slip and certainly without any cessation in forward momentum! What a beast!

Decided that i managed to get up so easily that i would go back and try help the bakkie and another corolla stuck at the bottom. Hooked up the corolla first and pulled it up with no issue at all. So went back down to hook up the bakkie. Not as easy and eventually had to leave him on the hill about 3/4 way up as my wheels were just spinning and we were staying in the same spot. But had some good fun!

So nice to have a vehicle that can still surprise me!

That is a awsome vehicle and center diff lock and rear diff lock and THAT LLC man I love it

My story isn’t half as much action as your experience, but it also suggests that Pajeros are great cars.

We had a get-together of our prof. society of our district on Friday. It was a “bring the wife and your 4x4” affair. We then headed off for a day-long trip through our mountains. I was volunteered to be the tail-end sweeper. Couples without 4x4s had to beg lifts. The couple that hopped in with me arrived in a long, dark, 350 E-Class Mercedes. Both hubby and the missus are engineers.
In the group were the usual mass of Fortuners, a Defender with a diesel turbo motor, a beautifully kept 3.0 Nissan Sani and three Cruiser pickups. I had to wait for the last car, because he had to stop in town to fill up with petrol first – no surprise when he showed up: 3.8V6 SWB Pajero – don’t drive past a petrol pump !

On a few occasions my passenger commented on the awesome Cruisers and their awesome 4x4 ability. I can’t and won’t argue against that. All I could add was if a Cruiser was in your garage, then you still needed to have a Merc as well. With a Pajero in the garage, you can do without the Merc. If I had the means there would be a monster 4x4 and a big German platkar and something small-fast-sexy for Sundays in my garage. My Pajero has to fill all those roles.

As the day wore on and we were low-ranging up the mountain, my passenger asked me why would anybody buy that (pointing at the Cruiser ahead of us) and not this (pointing at my Pajero)? I didn’t expect that one and asked him why.

“Look how they bounce in that Cruiser and here we sit each with a cold beverage in the hand”. Sound logic if ever I heard it.

I didn’t have to rescue anybody and the Defender didn’t break down and the D4D’s didn’t eat their injectors or turned belly-up, so a great day was had by all.

The next day I dusted the inside of my car – guess what? Not a single sticky stain from a spilt beverage.

I can just imagine the smile on your face while driving up that slope....

I can relate to that. Took my first trail,mud nd all,and was remarked about the way the Gen4 got out of the mud with agile ability. This was from a driver of a Paj SWB

Yes tha Pajero is so good at being such a capable allrounder. You can go most places where all the "hardcore" 4x4s get to but you can also cruise the highways in comfort and style as well as arrive at a posh restaraunt/event and not feel out of place.

Like I said "What a lekker vehicle!"
