We have a IO in our vehicle family. Problem is that for a 1800 it is very heavy on fuel. In town we get around 8.5 kmpl and on the open road maybe 9kmpl. Question : can this be improved. It is such a good little vehicle. Bennie

Bennie I have to concur. Your average is about the same as mine. Including some town driving but about 75% open road I have an average of 8.5km per litre. My 3.0d X5 gets almost 11/litre average. Some guys go with chipping apparently. I might look into that in the hope it will improve the consumption. Lovely little vehicle but thirsty as a V8.

Hi PortaPower and Malice.
I too have a 5door manual IO and also find it to be a bit heavy on fuel, averaging out about 8km/litre going to work and back, and a little better on the open road. My previous car was also an IO, but a SWB automatic, and had a little better performance averaging out at about 10km/litre.
Does anyone have experience with having a chip done? How much does it cost and what are the fuel savings?
