Trip computer accuracy

Hi
I've just purchased a 2000 3.5 a/t SWB (petrol) and looking at the little trip computer on the dash I was wondering if anybody has done a comparison between actual fill ups fuel consumption and the indicated consumption?
So far it is lighter on fuel than I thought it would be, hence my enquiry.
Also it seems to be lighter on fuel than the 3.0 Colt Double cab I used to have, which seems a bit odd, but in a good way
