Afternoon all,
I've an 2003 Di-D that's got a bit of a problem. For some reason the speedo is reading around 40% higher than it should, ie: speedo shows 100km/h but true speed is closer to 60!
I've searched high and low on the interwebs and can't find anything about anoyone who's had this problem before. I know that before I bought the Paj last year i was fitted with a new auto box by the agents here in Kampala, Victoria Motors.
Does anyone have any idea where I could start looking at how to fix this. As far as I understand the odometer is reliant on this so my mileage is massively out too!
Thanks in advance,
Etienne
AFAIK tires also have influence on the speedo reading. Do you still have the standard size tires on?

Have you tried resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery for a while? What I usually do is to disconnect the battery and then switch on the lights and even turn the ignition key to start to get rid of any electricity that may be lurking somewhere in the system.
Reconnect and see what happens.

Gents,
Sorry for the late reply, just spent a few days at a place called Holland Park in Jinja. Awesome place where you don't really want to turn on your laptop!
Anyway, I tried the disconnecting the battery trick and it didn't work. Johann, she still has the stock standard wheels on so it can't be that, different sizes normally only give a small % difference though.
And lastly, she's an SA spec Pajero so I don't think there could be a problem with it being calibrated to miles.
The hunt continues!!

Just a shot in the dark: Not sure how you measured the true speed, but most GPS's can be set for miles instead of kilometers. As someone pointed out before this can happen if true speed is in miles per hour while the car speedo shows kilometers per hour. Check yuour GPS settings if applicable.but true speed is closer to 60!

My first response is the same as Buurmans - Miles vs Kilometres. The computer has an option to select miles or kilometres. However, I don’t think that this affects the actual reading on the speedo, which is a different system. But, if you are comparing the two you will pick up the difference in the readings....
If you can feel the grass between your toe's, your flying too low!

Mitsubishi provides different speedo gears (in the transfer case) for different gear ratios.
Maybe Marius should look on the parts list for the different gears available?

Speed is obtained from the Transmission as far as i know. You mentioned that you had the autobox replaced, so obviously who ever replaced it did not correctly replaced the cable with it, i have the same issue, it was ok, then i had some work done on the t-case and thereafter was out, it doesnt bother me that much as i drive much slower that i think i do, so less speeding fines. Or i drive according to my GPS reading.
