4 x 4 Wiring

Since I had the clutch replaced on my 1996 3500 lwb manual 18 months ago, the 4x4 lights on the dashboard have been flashing continuously and despite returning it repeatedly to the mechanics, they were unable to resolve the problem. Later I discovered by getting stuck in a dry river bed and having to winch myself out, that it was not just the dashboard lights but the actual 4x4 system was not engaging properly either. I gave up with the clutch guys and took it to another mechanic who found out, on his lift, that it would go into Hi 4 but as soon as the lever was nmoved to the centre difflock position, 4x4 disengaged, and remained disengaged when moving further to Lo 4 - giving me effectively just Lo 2! The new mechanic has systematically renewed all the vacuum switches without success and then renewed the 4x4 ecu but the problem still remains the same. It seems possible to me that the clutch guys all those months ago muddled up the wiring to the switches. Does anyone please have any comments/experience/advice on this problem. I need to use 4x4. Best Regards.

Hi Henk,

Thanks a lot. That seems to be a very straightforward wiring diagramme. I will give it to the mechanic and see what he comes up with and let you know.

Best Regards, Stuart
