I have a 2000 3.2 DID GLS and would like to know whether installing a UNICHIP would be a worth while investment and if there are any reasons that I should not.

Been wondering the same.

Would greater performance reduce fuel consumption???

You will get a lot of differant opinions, some people will be for it and others against it.

I have noticed, that many of the people that are against it don't have a chip installed.
I only heard of a few people that said they removed the chip because of some funny fault they had somewhere.

I am still looking into this as it is not to bad price at Dastek, they charge R2300 installed and tuned.

Nismo,

R2300 for the chip, installation and tuning sounds way to cheap. Last quote I got from SAC was +/- R5700 and they use Dastek's chips AFAIK.

The 3.2DID requires a different type of chip than most other vehicles (same type as the KZTE apparently) - I could not transfer my 3.5V6's chip (R2500) to my 3.2DID, but had to buy a new one if I wanted.

Just double check that price to be safe.

Hi,
I bought my PJ(3.2DiD, 2005 model) with the chip allready installed so I cant comment on the before/after comparrison.
I can say that at 170000km she still kicks butt - hard, and I'm very impressed with the power. Compared to an Isuzu which is suppose to have very similar power figures (120kw, 370NM) as the standard PJ mine is definitly way more responsive. Consumption, well I work 5km from my house so cant realy judge by that but open road go to 9km/l moderately loaded, 10 if only our family and i nurse her, load her up and/or hook a heavy trailer, well she does it with a smile but at a cost.
The previous owner sold this chipped PJ and bought a newer (2010) model which is unchiped. He said he could definately feel the diff with the chipped one being more responsive and having more power than his newer unchiped one.
I do feel that the rev-range in which the peak power is delivered might be slightly narrower than before (torque curve more spikey), it seems that she punches very hard when hitting the torgue rev peak (around 2100) and this causes easy wheel slip offroad, to easy, and you must keep an eye on this. Looking at the standard torque curve I would expect the torque delivery to be a bit smoother and more relaxed but my experience is different, maybe it is the gearbox as it needs a fluid change.

I spoke to the lady at DASTEK and she quoted me R2300 for the chip for a 2005 Pajero.

Maybe the common rail chips are more expensive?

They then wire the chip into the wiring and do a before and after dyno to show the result.

She also claimed that you have a 3 month money back guarantee, If you are not happy they will remove it and give your money back.

Hi

I have a 2011 SWB 3.2DID with the Dastek chip installed, makes no difference in consumption (+-9.1km/l on the open road and average 8.5km/l)

Performance however is much better. When overtaking without the chip, I have to go back to 3rd gear, with the chip I stay in 5th. It will reach 190km/h in no time.

I am not sure, but I think the chip can be adjusted by Dastek for performance or economy, not sure how it works.

I can recommend a chip.

Willie

Sorry guys,

I spoke to Dastek yesterday and they quoted me R3250 for the chip. It seems I didn't hear right the first time... sorry

Seems like SAC Nelspruit wanted to smoke me then @ +R5000 for the chip. My Pajero has the motor just before the common rail unit and might therefore differ from the Gen4's chip.
