Altenator and Cooling lights came on???

Hey Guys.
Got a 2000 3.5 Blister Fender. The battery light and the cooling system (orange)light(not the oil light, red) came on after about 10 min drive. The lights came on at the same time, but are only shining dim. The moment the rpm's goes up, the lights shine more bright.(I assume that is just the altenator supplying more power to the battery). Does anyone have any advice. Cooling level is perfect, Battery is good(tested). It seems like a kind of a short somewhere. What is the relation between the 2 systems.

Hi Johan,
I have a 99 model and had a similar thing happen to me. The light came on sometimes and sometimes just dimly. This carried on for a while and eventually the alternator ceized up. Best would be to have the alternator tested.
It is very simple to take out and take it to a specialist to test. For the little trouble it is to remove and get tested, it is not worth getting stranded!
Hope you come right!

If this was just the alternator light I would be about 99% sure it would be the brushes, the cooling system light throws me a bit

Not perhaps a drive belt issue?

My 99 Blister is doing the opposite. The alternator light shines dimly and when revving up it goes dead
What can the probable cause be

Definitely have the alternator tested.
On my '96 Gen2 3,5v6 the battery and transmission lights came on simultaneously and then would die when the engine was revved.
One cooked battery later, the alternator was serviced and the battery was replaced. All is well now.
BTW the alternator was charging at 17v.

Hey Guys. 2 Lessons learned out of this exercise. First, listen to advice, even if you think you are right. I thought my battery came to its end, so i replaced it(R1000). I did my altenator myself so "it couldn't be that". Lights still on on the dash, I was slowly giving up hope and thought it was a short of some sort. Then the new battery just gave up on me 2days after i replaced it. the only thing left to do was to recheck the altenator. Phoned around in Cape Town and ended up with a price between R500 to R1000 to get it redone. Took a chance and phoned the agents, whom was very helpfull. They had a new one for me at only R7200 excl vat. Then someone reminded me of a wonderful place called Goeiehoop Spares in Brackenfel. R1069 later I had a brand new altenator and all lights were dead. Battery new. Altenator new. All sorted out now. Second lesson, if all else fails, phone Goeiehoop Spares in Brackenfel. They stock all the basics, or can get it for you, and they dont leave that unpleasent taste in your mouth when you get to the pay point. Thanx for the advice, wish I was listening in the first place.

Hi Guys,
Yip I took all your advice to heart and had the alternator refurbished, The regulator were shod. I had the starter sommer done as well as it sounded a bit sicky though.
After all my previous comments about a said repairer I found out today that my alternator was swopped when the engine was removed as I know for a fact my previous alternator was re-done at the same place and they use a marking system for all repairs and this alternator had no marks or proof of a service done it. I am seriously p088ed off.

Ja Ghost,
I am seriously piffed as when I took delivery of the vehicle I noticed the alternator light shining dimly and asked what was wrong as I knew I had spent a good R1700 on a complete refurbishment and found the fault strange. The reply was it is working correctly and the battery was a bit flat
Needless to say after only about 1500 km the problem got worse and worse. Todays bill a full R 2200,00
Funny though my starter was done at the same time , same place and that was still in order except now with a Bendix problem which added to the cost. Toooo many questions toooo little answers.
