All,

For no other reasons than i want to, i would like to sort out a set of axle breathers for the front and rear diffs.

I undertand that the front breather comes out high in the engine bay (any more specific info welcome) so this will be the last one I do, the rear will be the first.

Can anyone confirm my approach below:-

1 x nylon 8mm OD 6mm ID pneumatic piping (estimate 8m)
Pack of cable ties (for securing pipework)
Fabricate a stainless steel L shaped bracket for mounting on engine bulkhead
2 x 6mmID plastic or metal bulkhead pneumatic connectors (to mount through the L shaped bracket to pick up pipe from rear at the bottom and then add a section of pipe on top to add the filter)
2 x foam filter (to place/fix over the end of the piping in the engine bay to stop dust /debris entering

this way i will end up with both breathers mounted on the inside of the engine bay protected by foam filter.

As I stated this is for no other reason than i want to do this for something to do on the truck, i can get most of the parts from work so its only my time that is spent. But if i am doing the job i want to get it right so thought i would canvas opinion and advice.

My truck is a Gen3 3.5 swb 2002 plate.

When it finally stops raining i will actually manage to get this job started!

I found the rear breather and location points, the front i think i have traced.

Existing pipe work could be a smaller ID than i thought so i am clipping some this weekend to ensure i get the right dimensions, also the OEM pipe works feels like rubber which surprise me as i thought it would be more robust to withstand presure changes but if these are only minimal then it probably is the best material to use rather than nylon. Hopefully start fabricating the bracket and then the week after run the pipes.

Once i complete i will update on here.

Inched a little further forwards this weekend, managed to get a sample of the breather tube to confirm spec:-

8mm OD
4mm ID
2mm wall thickness
Definatley rubber based material.

Started fabricating bracket and will be trying to find correct tube materials, looking at using a silicone based pipe now.

For thoses who were interested i completed fitting my front and rear axle bretaher modifications this weekend. Both lines now run into the engine bay with full air line breathers and filters plus stainless fittings.

I did a full write up including specifications and loads of pictures.

I am useless with uploading as my skills are not PC based!

I will kindly ask the site admin to upload to somewhere on the site on my behalf and perhaps add a link to this post.

I am very pleased with the look and functionality of the mod, i hope this helps someone in the future and at least puts something back into the club.
