Help needed

I travelled fro Durban to St. Lucia yesterday with my Suzuki jeep in tow on an A frame and multiplug connection for the lights. During the trip I activated my hazard lamps to thank a truck for moving over and that is when the problem started. The hazards and indicators would not work and the following instrument lights immediately lit up - Active stability control OFF, Engine oil level, Charge warning, A/T fluid temperature and Fuel filter indicator. I stopped and checked the engine before proceeding slowly to a safer parking. I have since checked fuses and fluid levels and find nothing abnormal. I cannot find a fuse for the indicator lamps or immobilser system. This system has played up intermittently with a problem starting the vehicle now and then. This is overcome by activating and deactivating the system a few times. Although the engine starts easily now, the lights remain on and I am not sure where next to look. Has anyone had a similar experience or able to offer some advice please.

Does the problem persist with the trailer plug disconnected?
Disconnect the battery for half an hour and hopefully the ECU will be reset.
If that does not help, you will have have the error codes identified, to identify the problems.

Here's what I think happened: When you activated the hazards, the fact that you now had 8 indicators going simultaneously overloaded the hazard light fuse and blew it (hence no indicators/hazards afterward).

The Gen 3 uses external voltage sensing to control the alternator output. The voltage is sensed from the hazard indicator circuit (not sure why). With no voltage available as a sensing signal (due to the blown fuse), the alternator output will be out of control and will increase above a safe level for, among other things, the battery. This leads to the dashboard lighting up like a Christmas tree as various ECUs sense this.

I would suggest that you check the fuses and replace the hazard/indicator fuse if blown. This should return all to normal. Do it soon though, else the battery will be ruined (at the very least, perhaps some ECU somewhere will also go on the blink in protest).

Sorry, I missed it, but did notice subsequently that you did look for the relevant fuse, but did not find it. I can't remember where it is and my wife is using the car, so I can't pop into the garage and check, but there certainly is a hazard light fuse. There are fuses in the engine bay as well as in the cabin. Hope you get sorted quickly.

Thanks Gerrit.Yes, the multiplug is disconnected and I have disconnected and reconnected the battery for 30 mins+ without success. I have checked the hazard fuse and it is OK. The position of the indicator fuse is still a mystery and is not listed in either fuse diagram in the manual. I would appreciate it if you can locate yours and let me know. Not sure about resetting on the engine management system but suppose I will have to learn if this is my only option. Thanks for the advice so far, will let you know if I come right.

Sorted ! Changed the hazard fuse and problem gone. Puzzling because fuse does definitely not look blown. Anyway, I am quite relieved. Thanks again for the support Gerrit.

Glad you got it sorted. Fuses can sometimes be little buggers as in this case.
