Gen 3 CD player - Replace or repair ?

Drove the Pajie for the first time in a few weeks today, only to be reminded that I have to do something about the CD player which finally gave up the gost earlier this year.
Has anybody fitted a replacement unit, or is it worth while having the old one repaired?

Morning,
with fixing you will probably pay close to what a new one will cost if you buy a medium quality radio (something from hifi corp etc).
So if you dont mind loosing the original radio rather get a new one, you will loose the radio display part on the display but that shouldnt be a problem, if you have a petrol model just check, I think the consumption calculations is done in the radio, not sure, with diesel I'd say get a new one.

I second that. With a new radio you also get USB and AUX input for the iPod or other application.

I am in the process of checking out aftermarket radios for my Gen 3. It's a petrol and if possible I don't want to lose the functionality of the trip computer (fuel consumption and distance remaining). Does anyone know if it's possible to remove the factory unit and still retain this functionality?
It depends on where the calculations are done, and if it is a simple case of removing the trip computer electronics and wiring them up independently of the factory unit.

As far as I know you only lose the radio display. The rest stay the same.
Right Marius?

That's what happened to mine although I have the black and white display.
PS : Do the blue displays show fuel consumption for the diesels on the gen3?

No, mine doesn't, but it is a only a 2004 model.
Maybe some of the newer ones have that function, but I suspect that it is only the common rail diesels that have that function and that will mean that it is only on Gen 4 diesels.

The button to change between the trip computer modes is built into the factory radio, hence my belief that the two are linked electronically. If it is only the 'DISP' button that is lost, I'm sure the same functionality could be rewired to an external push switch. On second thought, maybe I'm better off not knowing exactly how much cash I am burning away up front
