...and I went and bought another Pajero!
Image

Spotted this grand old lady in Gumtree on the weekend thanks to Renier. 1998 blister Gen 2.5 2.8Tdi with 154 000km's for R55 000. Thought it was too good to be true, so I phoned and eventually managed to go and look at her yesterday after the owner took it for a AA test on my request. Bought her on the spot. (There goes the plans to buy the Rubicon I wanted).

There's a lot of work to be done. The radiator sprung a leak, and the owner gave me R2000 off because of it (I had the choice of him fixing but because of all the other work that needs doing I just decided I'll do it myself as well).

Mechanically she seems sound, AA report confirms she needs a lot of cosmetic work. Two of the electric windows don't work, ABS light is on (probably brake pads), rear door handle is broken, there's a spot of rust on one pillar and a small dent I need fixed etc. As soon as time allows I will book her in to Mitspro and just leave her there for a week or two.

Oh and she needs four new tires so I'm thinking 32" muds

Once this is done, we will get her a snorkel, dual battery system and a roofrack. Basic idea of what I want is below (thats with 32" muds and no lift). Mechanically sound and simple vehicle. Overlanding vehicle sorted! :D

Congrats Pierre,

Those Gen2's always look so lekker, especially the Blister fender, can't wait to see the mods and see the changes.

Cheers

That millage is a steal... Just some experience for your tyre selection

I am currently running 32"s on my Gen2 and must admit that the long climbs on the open road does effect the available pulling power vs 31"s. Having played with 30,31,32 and 33's, on the 2.8, the 30's looks stupid, 31's is probably the best compromise, but the 32 looks proportionally as it should, and 33's just looks like a jungle basher  .

Enjoy your new wheels!!

Re: ...and I went and bought another Pajero!
Thanks for sharing the tyre experience. If it was a petrol I probably would stick to 31's, but being a diesel it should have some nice low down torque so I should be ok with 32's, plus when we overland I hardly go above 115km anyway (there is always a slow Defender 110 in the group :D :D ).
Re: ...and I went and bought another Pajero!
I keep telling SWAMBO that we our second car should be a SWB Pajero, but she's not biting :D

Congrats!

Two issues remain, and I can't solve them due to Imperial having no parts...ABS 4x4 Sensor and Oil Pressure Sensor (not the oil level one).

Motor runs nice and cool though, going offroad tomorrow with her for the first time

Nearly done.. Haven't posted a update here for a while. All mechanical issues including ABS light fixed. Put a nice big sound system in her, Alpine head-unit, lots of speakers etc, then roofrack with awning, jack, spade etc. NL battery box with 105A battery.. Small fixes like dents and rust all sorted, and even got some centre caps from a Colt extreme to round off the wheels. Seat covers and 4 spotlights (two on roofrack) also fitted. Now, she is sweet, but needs packing system and rocksliders. Then custom bumpers :D :D

Congrats,

Muds looking mean! How much did you have to fork out for the muds if I may ask ? I'm considering Maxxis amongst other brands on my Gen 3. What is handling and noise levels like ?
