Park Distance Control Issues

Hi All,
I bought my 1st Pajero a few weeks ago and look forward to hopefully many years of service and enjoyment from this vehicle. This website has a wealth of knowledge and I must thank all you passionate Mitsubishi owners out there who are always willing to share in their experiences.
So far (apart from a few minor niggles) I have been very happy with the car, yesterday I had some PDC’s and tyre pressure monitors installed which were integrated into the CASKA system. Unfortunately I have problematic PDC sensor. After doing some tests I found it’s not the sensor that’s faulty but just the exhaust is causing interference and causing it to activate. With the ignition on all seems to be ok, turn the engine on and the sensor starts playing up. Is it possibly the exhaust noise or vibration that could be causing this?
I have attached a pic showing the placement of this sensor in relation to the exhaust. Has anyone experienced this problem before, if so was the situation remedied??

I suspect that the sensor in die bumper is aiming a little too low, i.e. It picks up the road behind. It should be installed to aim horizontally to the back. I had mine spaced up at the bottom to get rid of the same problem. Try to park the car with its backside up in the air, like put the rear wheels on a hump, and test again. that will tell. Is the PDC connnected to the reverse lights and does the problem only show up when rerverse gear is selected? I don't see how the exhaust tail pipe can interfere.

CVS,
I had a look at the sensors on my car (factory fitted). The corner ones sit near the top of the bumper, your's are much lower (downward facing) than mine. I thus support Bigwill's opinion.
My system also has a setting to allow for a towbar. Make sure they only function in reverse gear, otherwise you won't be able to tow anything
I hope you get it sorted and I hope you will enjoy your new Pajero.

Thanks roelf, bigwill for the advice. Fortunately the guys connected the sensors so that they only operate when reverse is engaged. I rotated the suspect sensor so it now faces out parallel to the ground and it seems to have done the trick. every now and then I pick up a false reading (almost always 600mm away which is about the distance to ground from the sensor) but its now intermittent and isnt associated with a particular sensor, I think this weekend I will rotate all of them and see if the situation improves. At least the system now functions!
Thanks again

Hi All,
I have received a PM request regarding my experience with the Caska intergrated TPMS, unfortunately I am new to the site and am not yet able to reply directly via PM so i thought I would just post my response here and hopefully benefit whomever is interested.
I purchased the TPMS directly for Planet electronics who shipped the goods down to Durban for me. They have partner distributors/installers all over the country and arrange the installation for you, installation cost was included in purchase price. I wasnt particulary impressed with the shop they proposed(for some unknown reason, just a gut feel) so just collected my goods and left. I called they guys from Planet Electronics and explained the story to them and they said "thats fine, take it to whoever you are comfortable with and get them to bill us for the installation" I ended up going to Image Audio in Umhlanga, who I know have done lots of work on Pajeros and they fitted the stuff no problems.
As far as integration and functionality goes with the Caska Unit, I am very happy. U can set the system to alarm when the tyres reach a certain pressure (high and low) as well as a certain tempreture. The system also allows "real time" monitoring of tyre temp and pressure at the touch of a button. Other than that u dont know its there.
One small item if concern was the tyre inflation valve itself, it is made of plastic so u need to be very carefull when inflating ur tyres that ur dont break the valve (to be safe i rather inflate my tyres myself) The guys as supaquick told me they have had instances where the valves have been broken but im sure if you take due care when inflating/deflating tyres u wont have a problem!
Lastly each TPMS unit has a battery life of Approx 5 years(remains to be seen). Also TPMS installation has no warranty implications (PDC Installations can void warranty as Mitsu currently have no approved PDC installers/products.
