Limited slip on front wheels?

Hi all
On a recent (see trip report Molototsi river) I was asked several times by people if I have lockers on the front diff. A few people was amazed with the amount off traction I had on the front wheels and the minimum wheel spin on obsticles.
Is there something different on the pajero drive train or was I just lucky to put the wheels where there was sufficent traction?

No, nothing special in the drivetrain; it must be down to your skill

. Like they say, the most important part in a vehicle in terms of mobility is the nut that holds the steering wheel

.
Your Paj has a nicely thought out drivetrain that will ensure that three out of the four wheels have to spin out before progress is halted (center diff and rear diff locked), but then so has just about every 4x4 pick-up these days.
The other important ingredient to remain mobile is to keep the wheels in contact with parts of the earth that are able to transmit tractive effort. Here the suspension system on the Paj is not the best there is (it is compromised to give the excellent on-road performance that it is capable of without resorting to the complexity of air or hydropneumatic suspensions) and picking the best lines becomes quite important at times.

Which Pajero do you have?
I assume it was a tricky section and you were in low range. Do you have T/C or rear difflock? My guess is D/L, because T/C allows quite a bit of wheel spin.
The only time a front D/L will have real impact is when only one front wheel (out of all four wheels) has traction.
There is nothing fancy about the Pajero 4x4 system when in LR and with rear D/L engaged - when compared to any other 4x4 in similar mode.
In answer to your question:
1)Maybe you had superior tyres
2)Maybe you had a lucky line everytime
3)Maybe you are better behind the wheel than you want to give yourself credit for
PS: Oh dear - Gerrit made his post while I was stuttering away at the keyboard with two fingers. At least we agree in broad terms - what a relief

I believe the Mud Terrains may have played a role...

Thanks guys. I really enjoy the pajero. I'm absoluty in love with it.
I think the muds played a big role and maybe I was lucky with the lines chosen.
I hope to join fellow pajero club members on an outing soon.
