Hi guys,
I just test drove a Gen4 3.2 LWB for a friend that is looking to buy a Pajero.
I can hear this "cluck" sound when going from 2H to 4H and then back.
If i leave the accelorator and shift it doesnt do it.
On my Gen3 I can shift either way and dont hear or feel anything.
Is this a big concern for him to buy it like that?

mine tends to make a 'click' more than an 'clunk', but also only if I havent used 4H in a while.
as for switching while foot is lifted off accelerator - my understanding is that your wheels need to face relatively straight. But then again I think the Gen4 has the same system as the Gen3 as far as I know!

Hi
It is my understanding that you need to take your foot of the acellerator to switch in any case, other wise the lights keep flashing?
Had a clunk the other morning going from drive to reverse, stopped doing it after heated up. May be cold weather?

My Gen4 also has a cluck-like sound, but I need to be very quiet and basically almost standing still to hear it. I really am not concerened in the least about it. To me it is just a nice solid engagement of the actuator.

If the rolling radii of all the tires are not identical, it can also lead to difficulty and thumps engaging/disengaging 4H. If the car has different brands of tyres (of identical nominal size) on the front and rear axles or if the tyres on one axles is more worn than on the other there will be slight differences in rolling radius, which could be sufficient to create the issues mentioned.
