Pajero Owners Club of South Africa

This is just for interest's sake : went to Maputo and Macaneta for a 4-day week-end last week. Driving down the main street down to the Marginal in Maputo SWAMBO noticed many Pajeros, so we started counting. Only the ones with the open spare on the back ( and which could be distinguished from the Toyota Surf ) we counted 73, and obviously missed many more due to the heavy traffic situation. The guys in Maputo have excellent taste !!

I was also in Moz a couple of weeks back and saw many pajero models all over - I thought afterwards that I should have started taking pics of them - would have made a nice album theme. Ah well, next time.

It's not just Maputo either - they're everywhere! What amazes me though is how they've scribed out huge numbers etc. on the body work with pop rivets :O Seems to mainly government cars that have that done to them though!

Well guys im Mozambican in Maputo and drive Beastie (Gen 2 SWB 2.8) everyday and sometimes the lady drives it too and we just love it.

Yes there are a lot of Paj's around but unfortunately they are being seen as very expensive cars to maintain. We lack expert service at affordable rates and parts are rare and VERY expensive. Last time i went to the local stealers they quoted the equivalent of R17k for just 4 shocks, oil, air and diesel filters. I was shocked. I asked for a quote from Union Motors in Nelspruit and they were also outrageous in term of their parts prices. What is happening?

Locally a lot of Paj's are being put to sale because of this and specially the 4M40 engined ones. People see them as a ticket to trouble and most mechanics will sway away costumers from buying them.

Maybe we need someonw with knowledge to move over here and open a decent paj shop...

About those pop rivets, they are done by government and NGO's. I dont think the government bought that many pajeros. mostly private and NGO's

Luckily most of our paj's are imported from japan so we have them "cheap".


Next time you plan to come this way let me know. maybe i can score some parts....

When you require service parts( filters, oil etc ) dont automatically approach the dealers. I serviced my baby for considerably less by buying from Autozone and Midas. Maybe there is a Midas in Maputo, so, for interest's sake you can enquire from them. Even the shocks will me MUCH cheaper from them. And they sell the same products. My son used to be a parts salesmen at Midas some time ago, and you would be surprised at the dealers that would buy parts from him to be installed into the vehicles which they were repairing. I would rather not mention names, but I can remember buying shocks for a Land Rover for a buddy in Moz from Midas at largely better prices.I go to Moz quite regularly, so will keep in touch
