Pajero Owners Club of South Africa

I recently replaced my Land Cruiser with a Gen 3 3.2DID GLS lwb and I am extremely happy. Firstly I live in Mozambique where diesel is at a +- 14% discount to petrol, secondly the consumption is half that of the LC and thirdly the ride is extremely smooth. However, where I live it is all dirt roads which the vehicle handles very well except when I hit corrugations and then it feels as though the vehicle is going to fall apart. I have dropped my tyre pressure to 1.5 but this has not made any difference.
Can anyone advise whether this is a common problem with the Pajero or do I have a suspension problem that requires attention.

I also found the pajero's (2001) suspension to be hard on gravel..... until the speed increases. Then it becomes smooth.

So if the road allows, try to speed up a little.

You're probably also feeling the difference between a seperate body and suspension, vs a monocoque suspension. A lot more noise and vibration is transferred into the cabin with monocoque.

I found the same problem last year when I did a trip to Lesotho! I had thought about lowering the tyre pressure at the time but was nervous about this course of action as I felt that by lowering tyre pressure I would expose my side walls to sharp objects increasing the risk of punctures. As it was, I could see scuff marks on the sidewalls.
I'm afraid my Paj does not like rocky or corrugated roads!

I too think the pajero doesn't like cruising on corrugated roads. When I test drove two vehicles while looking for a pajero both were 2008 models but one with low miles 30k kms and the one I bought was done 85k kms. Both were having vibrations and rattling like crazy.

After I bought the car went to mitsu reporting the issues but they say mine is a one of a kind issue with so much rattles..

Anyone here with a new pajero having rattling issues?

I have a 2001 DiD SWB. I recently fitted a high lift suspension kit and still find that corrugations just about rattle the car to pieces - especially the dash. Lowering the tyre pressure does help slightly. From what I have heard from other owners, it seems to be normal on these Pajero's.

I am sorry to say but for all of you Gen 3 owners who are complaining about the Pajero suspension, "de-convert" it back to the standard suspension (both coils and shocks) and feel the diffirence!! If need be, add air springs at the back but that is all!! I have done a slight body lift to get a bit more approach, break-over and departure angles but NOT excessive (50mm total lift front and rear). We have travelled a lot with a heavy/full Pajero and can report that all the rides were exellent. I do agree that real, "high quality sinkplaat" is a pain but deflate to 1,7 bar and increase your speed to above 85 and it smooths out.
