my paj's sump has a leak, i am going to do the job myself.
anything i need to look out for any suggestions.

I had a similar problem when I bought my Gen 3, they had to remove the whole front diff assembly to remove the sump....
Mission, but there is no other way as the oil pickup tube prevents removing the sump side-ways above the diff. I would not reccomend trying to reseal it with out properly cleaning both surfaces which becomes difficult by just dropping it 30-40mm ontop of the diff. hope it makes sense, however I am not sure if the Gen 2 has the same setup, but pretty sure it does.

what a sh!!!!t job, gave up and asked my mech to do it for me, hope my beast's leaks are sorted now, after all it is a paj not a landy LOL

sump gasket fixed, leak is not. timing cover seems to be the problem, or the front diff maybe.

Hi hogbeast, I had a similar problem.

It started with the cam and crank seals as there was def an oil leak on one, so I decided to do all 3 while I was there. There was so much oil on the motor that I didn't see the other leak at the time, so as I still had a leak after the cam/crank seals, from there I did the sump seal as I thought that was the culprit.(The mission I spoke of earlier). Still had leak, ended up that it was the oil pump that is bolted onto the outside of the block on the crank. Had to remove the cambelt again to get to it to seal the leak.
Another leak sprung from the rear crank seal so I did that with the auto box input shaft seal while I was there... that eventually sorted the saga!

i will check if there any leaks tomorrow, hope not.

I have managed in the past to fix a leak from the outside. Get the joining seam as clean as possible and remove the old gasket strip that peeled out as much as possible. Loosen the sump bolts one or two turns.

Make sure it is absolutely clean and grease free, prepsol and alcohol is your friend. Then trace a bead of good sealer around the joining perimeter and run your finger lightly over it to seal it. Give it 5 min and then tighten the sump bolts by hand, wait another 5 min and tighten another half turn or so.

It doesn't always work but worth a go as an alternative to dropping diffs to get to the sump.

update on the very slow progress
it seems to be the seal between the dieselpump and the timing cover, we will remove the timeing cover and pump. then reseal the lot.

test and calibrate the pump while it is off.

Got bad news today, apparently the rings are shot causing pressure, which is pushing out at the weak points causing the oil leaks.
What options do I have? Jap imports?
What other engine will be compatible with the Pajero, which will be lighter on fuel.
How reliable are the imports? Any recommendations
