New to Pajero

I have just purchased a 2001 3.5 V6 GLS 280 000km (Gen 3). I know it will be thirsty, but are there any things I should have checked out or do to get the best possible consumption?
Can anyone recommend a mechanic who specializes in Pajero's in the Cape Town area?

Hi Duane
I have a similar vehicle, you did'nt state if it was auto or manual transmission.
I have the auto, and I initially had full syntetic castrol edge oil in the engine, and changed to Caltex DELO 400 multigrade oil. Best fuel saving yet. I am getting average 14.7 liters to 100km as to 16.5 with the casatrol EDGE before and a much smoother running engine, esier starting etc... Prior to changing oil I had branches and free flow put in, a K&N lifetime airfilter, flushed and new tranny oil, platinum spark plugs, list goes on.
Do you have a service history?? Very important is the cambelt and tensioners every 90 - 100k km. Rest is just normal oil changes for the transfer case and diffs especially of the vehicle has done a water crossing or two.
I service my paj myself, only go to service centre if i cannot do something myself, but I use Le Roux Motor clinic in Brackenfell if I absolutely have too and have had very good service from them.
Good luck, you have an awesome vehicle there!!
