Good evening everybody
i would just like to ask if fitting bash plates under the gear box will this not cause overheating of the gearbox by reducing the air flow around the box? and if fitting the plates should a bigger oil cooler be fitted for safety to reduce the chance of overheating, i have got a quote on a plate but i like makeing things myself has anybody got advise on what not to do when making plates

Hi Richard

Many of us have fitted gearbox plates without any negative effects re the cooling, the pajero has a ATF cooling radiator on the front that keeps the oil at right temp. The engine also actually warms the atf aswell in the coolant radiator as it functions better at 70 - 80 degree C as it runs through the normal radiator as well running thorugh its own radiator if it gets too hot.

I have a redundant autobox VDO temp probe fitted in the sump plug, and have a mangament system that sets off an alarm if the box temp get too high, and have not noticed an increase in temps since fitting the sump plate.

I bought a Gen 4 Paj and notice that all the std bash plates were there exept for the one under the transmission witch my Gen 3 Paj had.

I had a look at other Gen 4's and notice that none of them have the OM bash plate under the trans.So two things came up in my mind, did Mitch done it to save cost or does it have something to do with the trans temp and the heat replacment of the exhaust that run's in front of the trans.

I dont have a trans temp gauge on my Paj but it should be nice to know if there's a diff in the trans temp with the OM bash plate and without, maybe someone with a trans temp guage can help us out on this.
