Pajero Gen3 SWB V6 radiator
Hi ...

Ok so on my way home from Sabie my Pajero's radiator started to leak very badly. What i need to know is can this be repaired or is it a replacement option only.

Thanks
Mike

We have no idea what the condition of your radiator is, but I would suggest you get the car to a reputable radiator shop to get it looked at.

The cost of a decent radiator job will be a fraction of repairing a cooked engine.

Re: Pajero Gen3 SWB V6 radiator
Ok bought a new radiator and fitted it myself. At the same time replaced the thermostat and the radiator cap.
When the car was running the pipes were hard as if too much pressure in the system and the car was still using water. Took the car in and had the heads removed. The head gasket was blown and water was getting to the piston which was causing the high pressure in the water pipes and radiator. This is what caused the old radiator to blow.
Car back on the road and running smoothly. Re did the heads while they were off.

One question. What kind ok washer can I use on the bleeder crews. Mitsubishi don't have any in stock! Surprised no!

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

We are glad your car is sorted :D

Any idea what caused the head gasket to blow?
What is the mileage on your car?

Hi Topless
I have a Silverton Radiator Franchise in Wynberg Sandton, yes in some csas it can be repaired but in most cases not. I drive a '96 3.0 V6, it still has the copper brass radiator fitted which makes it easier to repair. You are welcome to give me a call 082 553 3587, but be carefull as another poster on this same subject said he had to re do his cylinderheads. We can test for exhaust gas in the cooling system, it takes about 10-15min. I stock the Gen 3 radiator aswell as we build custom copper and brass units. I have done quite a lot in the past few years since they changed to aluminium an plastic.

Re: Pajero Gen3 SWB V6 radiator
Hi ... Not to sure what caused it to blow. Think it might have had something to do with a previous overheating problem I had. My Pajero has 210 000 Kim's on the clock.

I still have an issue with the temp gauge that at times goes right into the red, most of the times when going up a hill! When I check all seems normal. Going downhill and the gauge returns to normal position. A friend has had the mod done to the gauge that mitsubishi do but since then the speedo etc are way out. He says that his temp gauge behaves now.

I managed to find a Gen3 radiator in Edenvale ... Thanks for the offer.
