Had a towbar fitted to my 2012 GLS LWB last week. After careful consideration this was done through the dealer (warranty as well as cost).
It is a Bosal model, which is removable. Have seen it on other 4X4s too. Square tube jobbie with a pin and threaded bolt.
The unit is not extendable (which i was told it was) - was it in the past?
It does not extend beyond the spare wheel which makes fitting a bike rack impossible. I also see difficulty in hitching anything over the ball as it sits halfway under the spare - either your hand will get squashed or obliterated, depending on the size of the trailer.

If they told you it was extendable, TAKE IT BACK!

Not sure if the dealers have this in stock lately, when I inquired many moons ago, no one had a clue. This will lift the sparewheel slightly and enable easier use of the tow ball.

If not you might need to get someone make one for you.
I would NOT extend the towbar pin if you are going to put weight on it, as the forces involved WILL eventually lead to fractures where the towbar mount on the chassis. It might be OK to extend for use with bicycle racks, but definitely not when towing.

I had the same type of two bar fitted to my 2012 Pajero. Problem is that this towbar's mountings are not strong enough to support any type of extension. Since I intended to use mine as a mount for my multi mount winch we had to redesign the mounting system. The changes includes a 320mm extended box section on either side, 4 new gussets and some beefing up of the chassis where the bolts go in. Last but not least we added 3 x new 16mm ht bolts on either side.
For a bike rack you don't have to go that far, but it would be a good idea to add gussets on between the cross bar and the mounting arms. Adding more meat where the bolts go through would help prevent cracking.
You have to remember that a two bar is designed to tow a trailer with a downforce of about 150kg (including service factor). If you intend to use it as anything else you have to adapt it to that application.

According to dealer (brooklyn) the initial models did extend. Due to reasons stated by Andre the extension did not go far, resulting in missing trailers, cracking etc.
To be honest i would be sceptical towing >3tons without beefing it up. One pin and a bolt just doesn't seem up to the task.
For now i think i will get a mod made for purpose of mounting the rack - max load will be in region of 50kg which is well within 150kg limit.
It's just a ball ache as one would think they have considered all areas before approving a unit for fitment.

I went through exactly the same exercise in December,same same. Also asked for the tow bar, same as yours, also came fitted about 30 cm too short to hook onto, catches the spare wheel.
I took it back, demanded they either take it off and money back or fix it. They added a very strong connection to it, I will post a pick if needed, no questions asked. I almost got the impression they expected me to come back?
Strange that they wouild install same thing that is obviously not working on so many vehicles.
PS is you PDC also so soft that you cant hear it when in reverse? I was told they cannot increase the volume> again, why have it if you cant use it?

PDC is audible but i find that it has blind spots. It didn't see a thorn tree in Kruger until it was too late. Scratches to prove it. I therefore do not trust it and make the missus get out and make sounds and gestures instead when there is doubt in reversing (not in Kruger of course!)
