Good Afternoon
could i ask if anybody knows of a good replacement engine on a Gen 3, i have seen one or two done with a Lexus V8 but does not help with consumption figures
all places i have to go to are far and the fuel consumption on my 3.5 is not helping at all with the budget, so i am looking at a alternative engine to fit. i love my Pajero and don't wasnt to sell it for another make of vehicle so the next best thing is to fit a more economical engine.
has anybody got some information for me PLEASE !!!
thank you in advance
Regards
Richard

Buy a Pajero 3.2 DID
A big car like the pajero will always need a big petrol engine. Maybe try change your driving style. A speed around 100-110kph will greatly reduce your consumption on the open road. Nothing you can really do in town with start stop driving besides accelerate gently.
I have a Gen 2 3.5 and a speed of around 110 kph gives about the best fuel consumption.

With the cost ot the other engine, you can buy a lot of unleaded for the 3.5!
Do the calcs (over say 150000 km) and see whether it is worth it.
PS 1:
I will be surprised if the Lexus V8 is any more economical than the Mitsu 3.5, if not the opposite!
PS 2:
Sell the Pajero and get a 3,2Di-D if you need economy!

Has it been proven to be more economical at the speeds you travel at??
According to other forums the V8 gets about 20l/100km for town driving. Which is probably the most similar driving to what you do (maybe?). An expensive conversion for maybe slightly better conversion may not be worth it as 4e suggests.

Much easier to reduce driving distance by 30% than to save 30% on fuel economy.
Do groceries once a week instead of every other day. Even better make your stops on the way to work pr on the way home.
Being more efficient and driving less will save you more than getting a diesel..... Besides the money you will lose on trade in and possibly buying a car that may need some repairs.

If I change engine I will go for a diesel.
Maybe a Toureg V6 or old type Ford 3,0 L diesel not petrol again.
OR maybe that 2.8 Cummins motor that is now fitted in the Foton

Not as smooth as what we are used but acceleration is quite impressive and enough torque to haul a Pajero comfortably.

Any thoughts on the Ford 2.5 TD. You can pick up the motors between 10 and 14k and the full conversion in a Hilu cost about 18 to 22K. I agree that this ~25K must be equated to the cost of DIFFERENCE in petrol to Diesel cost.
