Pajero Owners Club of South Africa

Not sure if this is common knowledge, but I was told today by the dealer that the petrol Pajero's are no longer being imported. This is due to the limited demand as a result of its high fuel consumption.

They also stopped selling them in Australia a few months ago.

It is a pity though as they have beautifull engines, and that coming from a diesel man says a lot!

They stopped bringing in the petrol LWB quite some time ago while the SWB was still available, but recently I noticed the SWB petrol also drop off the market.

Let me tell you guys something: I have owned both DiD and 3.8V6 MIVEC models and nobody in his right mind will choose a new petrol model over a new diesel model - simply because of the difference in fuel consumption (30%).

I think a clever car dealer should start an import line for 2 to 3 year old petrol models.

Out of interest, a while ago I was very serious about buying a new Treg (simply because of the very low interest rate VW were offering on them), I wanted the 3.6V6 petrol one. Although it was on their list, they don't really exist. I could order one and then they think the factory will tool-up for a run of petrol models after about 6 months.

I think I'll just keep my old dinosaur and one day sell it to an eccentric collector for a million bucks

I bought my first Pajero a week ago from Mitsubisi in Cape Town and they also said that they had stopped importing the petrol.
Have been a Toyota fan ( Prado, FJ and 3 LC bakkies, but grew tired of their arrogance and sales pitch. When I tried to trade my last pick-up in they offered me R235000. I sold it privately for R295000. Hence my move to Pajero, a car that I have always fancied.

I'm hoping that with the demand for more diesel cars, the demand for petrol will decrease thereby lowering the cost to 30% less than diesel. I wont hold my breath though.

Abit of useless?? information. I was informed by the service provider at the Mitsu agency that I normally support that from October 2013 Chev will take over the Mitsu agency(ies) and Chev will now be the big wheel.

Maybe good news. Imperial is doing NOTHING to preserve the spirit of Pajero. I don't think anyone there understands that this. If Chev puts a Chev badge on the car, I give it 1 year, and the spirit is dead. So the brand and the legacy.

Is not rather a joint agency / franchise in one specific town?
We eg have a franchise in East London which sells amongst others, Geely, SangYong, Mahindra and Subaru! Another sells Renault and Tata (I think - these foreign brands don't really catch my attention)

If GM was to take over Mitsubishi Motors, it would have been big news in the motor industry for sure.

I read recently on a science news site, that Mitsubishi would be teaming up with Nissan/Renault, but this was only in order to develope their Hydrogen Celled Car, it was specifically stated in the report that Mitsubishi had no interest in collaborating further / swapping shares with an manufacturers, and points to the fact that the Mitsu brand is strong, and not going anywhere. I seriously doubt that there would be any chance of GM taking shares in Mitsubishi. (Thank God for that)
