I have just returned from a very dusty camping trip in Botswana and Namibia.
I remove my back seats and install a drawer system. When removing these seats 4 location holes are left exposed in the floor (I replace the seat bolts).
I find with my Gen4 that the dust literally flows in through these location holes, coevring the entire interior of the car.
I never had this problem with my Gen3 which was always dust free.
Maybe just another unfavourable item to add to the dashboard woes!
So, if you do remove the back seat, make sure the four holes are covered!

We covered (pun intended ) those holes in another thread a while back. I find my Gen4 pretty much dust proof. A 2006 Gen3 GLS from a few years back was very dusty if I didn't close all the windows with the fan on.

Then after I sold it, I read about a rubber "seal" behind the rear light cluster to allow air flow out of the car. This had a open or closed factory setting, but could be redone by removing the light cluster and re-setting that flap.

Dave - I've now done 2 trips through botswana, which included a dry central kalahari and 2 days on the salt pans (driving through one particularly bad dust cloud).

No dust in car from either trips (except for when a door or window was left open - but this was more the front of the cabin).

Definitely not a typical issue.

Thanks for the comments - gives me a little bit of hope!
I'll just have to find some rubber plugs of some sort.
I'll check the rear light cluster too.

I have simply plugged the 2 open "holes" with that white sticky putty stuff one uses to attach pictures to a wall - works perfectly. Noted though that some dust was somehow entering the vehicle, presumably from the vents visible on the left and right side at the rear of the cabin. Can/should one try to close that as well?

I am a little slow on this dust topic, but would like to add some comments.
I had some serious dust problems with my GEN 4. After every trip my vehicle was at the local dealer's workshop before a wash so they could evaluate the situation.
The last time they kept the vehicle for 2 days. On my last hunting trip to Namibia this year I travelled 600km dirt road and I am not 100% convinced that the dust problem had been put to bed.

I noticed, when I got up the courage to clean the inside of my car and extended the very back seat belts out, that the portion normally behind the panelling was white with dust. So maybe it does come through the tail light cluster.

Guys maybe start but re adjusting all the doors again to close nice and tight.Then spray some silicon spray on a rag and wipe all the rubbers down.This helps everything seal properly again,especially useful on older cars.
I also found that the one rear window of mine,the ones that clip closed on the sides did not clip properly and let a small amount of dust in at times.I fiddles a bit with it and got it to clip closed properly.Never had dust in my cabin again
