Generational Gap OR the gap between my ears?

Hi.

Is there somewhere on the net or here where the generational differences is shown? I cant determine the difference between a gen 3 and a gen 4. You see I am use to the difference between a gen 1 and a gen 2 and a gen 2.5 or blister fender. I never paid much attention to gen 3 and 4.

The pajero I am looking at buying for instance has a tape deck and a 6 disc shuttle in. Searching on the net for gen 3 dashboard doesnt show me picks of this radio nor does a search for a gen 4 dashboard.

Another thing. Does all gen 3 and 4's have duel batteries in?

Perhaps its the gap between my ears that is causing the confusion for me. Perhaps not? Here is some pics of the one I am looking at buying.

This is a gen3.

Easy way of telling is the spare wheel at the back. Gen 4 is mounted in the centre and gen 3 to the right. Front lights, grill & bumper different on gen 4 and new dash and steering wheel with buttons for cruise control, radio etc on steering wheel.

Gen4 upgraded to more powerfull common rail diesel in 2009. Can only fit 17" rims on gen 4 whilst gen 3 can still take 16".

The gen 4 came out in 2007 to my knowledge, so models from that year can be a gen3 or 4

The car in the picture is a Gen 3. Could be anything between a 2005 and a 2007. I note the 17 inch rims and the white background of the clocks. The red taillight lenses is unique to the Gen 3. Will probably find it has a sunroof too.

The most important upgrade from the Gen2, and one of the few similarities between Gen3 and Gen4, can be seen in the attached pictures. You will struggle to convince me that all those years of experience in designing and building a DAKAR legend didn't seep into this suspension design.

I think your pictures are labelled wrong way round. "Back" is actually "front" etc.

Bigwill,

What?? Me get something as elementary as that wrong? - and it wasn't me that edited those captions at 7am this morning

PS:
Thanks for the heads-up.

Would have worked well for a fork-lift, though!

Would also have been the first Pajero to reverse park with ease ;)

Yes I was wandering for a moment if my car was assembled on a Monday perhaps.
