Well gents,

If all go according to plan, we should see the old red fuel guzzler in action again in May. We'll be continuing our education of the SIL and BIL in the pleasures of dirt roading and off roading. Two years ago we took them to central- and southern- Namibia. That trip was 50% camp and 50% accommodation. This trip is 100% accommodation, so no camping stuff and no trailer. The last trip I did with no trailer (Damaraland last year) the old beast rewarded me with a 12.5L/100km consumption. Attached is our schedule (including 3 nights in our guest house in Paternoster) and using the 12.5 consumption (and 14R/L) to calc fuel cost.

I'm in the final stages of preparing the Pajero for the ordeal. Before we leave it will get new DELO 400 and filter, wheels will be swapped back and front, with fresh Nitrogen and ballancing. The exterior will get fresh polish and the interior some leather and dash mooti. In car entertainment will consist of six CDs each with about 10 hours of MP3 music.

I take it you will be staying in the Reed Cabins at Tatasberg?........Lovely!

Reed cabins is a yes

They do look nice. We have been to them, but never stayed there. I once had to pull a stuck Fortuner (2WD ) from deep sand near there as well - with my 2006 3.8V6 SWB at the time.

Yes, they are great! Maybe just some points to ponder.

The gas fridge/freezer we had in our unit really battled to keep up during the day. Was very glad that we had our own fridge in the car.

We visited in October and although we were playing in the river during the day, the nights were quite chilly with an ice cold wind coming through those reeds. On the second night we moved the mattresses to the kitchen unit which was "protected" from the wind by the bedroom unit. Here we made a big family bed (to the enjoyment of the kids!) which sorted the cold nights out.

One week to go. The route between Paternoster and Tankwa seems to have been finalised. I used GoogleEarth and Basecamp and found a little track that looks to go straight through the Sederberge.

If you are going to cross the Doring river be careful. We crossed it about a year ago and the water then was 60+ cm deep.

That's fine, the Gen4 Pajero is rated for 700mm

Four biltong and beer skaffing SA adults, four suitcases, one trommel and one Coleman should drop the wade depth by 200; right into the drink
