Proper Usage of Automatic Transmission

Hi all.
Long time reader, first time poster...
I'm not sure this is the correct thread for this topic but:
I have been driving my Gen4 SWB for about 2 months now, and it's just amazing. I try to, when parked, put the car in Neutral, pull up the handbrake, release the brakes, then apply brakes again and put it into Park (so as you stop the clicking sound when the car moves after it is switched off).
One thing I was wondering about...
When you are stopped at a red light, do you put the car in neutral? Or do you just keep the foot on the brake until the light goes green?
What is the correct procedure for auto 'boxes in terms of longevity?
