Hi Guys,

I love my Pajero (2008, GLS, LWB), but there seems to be a host of little rattles / noises coming from the back and it takes away the driving pleasure for me. I have even took my BFs (still new) off and replaced them with Duellers to see if that would help (softer ride). There is also a specific "clunk" that comes from above the right rear back wheel (it seems) and I cannot find it. I now want to remove all the inside covers and the roof cover and look for these irritating rattles. It is not nice to have a Fortuner owner comment on all the "rattles" when travelling dirt roads!! Have any of you dismantled the inside covers at the back? I don't just want to start pulling on them as the clips might break off and then I have worse problems. Thanks, Gert.

Yes, I have removed them. Gen 3 and Gen 4.

in Gen 4, the "rails" for the "luggage compartment cover" has screws inside them. remove with 10mm socket. Each rail has 2 screws, one under the little cover that you flip open with a flat screwdriver (or similar). Another screw in the hole (that is covered by the reel part of the luggage compartment cover). Then simply pull top grey panels(panels surrounding the side windows of the 3rd row seats) off. some clips may break, so do this when the shops are open in order to get new ones if necessary. Use self adhesive foam rubber in places where panels might be noisy, touching other panels.

Removing top panels 1st will expose screws for bottom(black) panels. some of the screws are hidden under carpet. Removing 3rd row seats work better, since the trim between the 5th door and the 3rd row seats cavity(kind of door-sill), also has to be removed.

Cover of 3rd row seat-cavity also common source of noise. secure with self adhesive velcro stuck to cover/lid as well as cavity trim

Also check for grey panel surrounding rear glass. it loves tapping against the glass just below the high level brake-light
