Yokohama vs Bridgestone

Hi All,

I'm looking to replace my tyres on the Pajero (LWB 3.2 Gen4) before our trip to Bots in August.

Due to the on-road vs offroad travel we do, I'm looking at the Yokohama Geolandar AT or the Bridgestone Dueler 694.

Any thoughts/tips etc. on which to go for would be appreciated.

Have used the Duellers on a number of trips and are good all-round, except for mud. Some side wall damage experienced, but that was in a wild section of uncleared bush (really off-road). Latest Yokohama also looks good, but no experience with it.

I don't have experience in the geolander, but the Bridgestone 694 is prone to sidewall damage (not just my opinion, a group of us all bought a set at the same time) and has a terrible drone/rumble at higher milage. I wouldn't buy it again.

Look at Michelin LTX all terrain, very capable all rounder. A mate of mine has done 100k on his with his fortuner and still has about 10k left. Pirelli scorpion and hankook dynapro both offer good value for money.

Hi,

I just fitted a set of Scorpion ATR's (Pirellis) to replace my "tired" Dueler A/T's and voila - the road noise is gone!

Apparently the side-walls are thicker than that of the Duelers? Something about "double layered 2-plys"...

It still has to be tested off-road, but runs perfectly on dry & wet tar and dirt roads. I also saved more than R1000 on the price of Duelers.

One consistent report of users of Scorpions is that it gets great mileage. My Duelers gave fair mileage, but hopefully this will improve.

Mr tonton - keep us posted on the mileage...

My understanding is that scorpions are great for road noise as their made from a softer compound. Most people I know with them get about 50k-60k km.

I had the Scorpions on my Gen 3. They are great on road and makes even a LWB handle like a sports car. Used them on a trip through Botswana and Namibia, only one puncture. Very strong side walls. Also very quiet. Look more like road tyres than A/T.

However, I found them a bit hard in the Kgalagadi, even at 1.5 bar. Lots of rattles.

So when I won a Yokohama voucher in a competition, I replaced them with Geolanders. A completely different tyre. Noisy and the car now drives more like a truck. But much more comfortable off road. So I am happy.

Depends how much time you spend on road. I considered getting a extra set of wheels so that I could use the Scorpions on road and the the Geolanders for off road trips.

Hi

I fitted Bridgestone Duelers and it was a huge mistake.They are impossible to balance. The rep met me at Autoquip and replaced one tyre free of charge. He said that they would fit an import tyre because that had a lot of issues with particular batches of the local tyres.

He also arranged an appointment at the factory to reset/balance all the others. The balancing was worse afterwards. It as so bad I had to change to my other set of rims with Yokohama Geolanders. I have no issues with them at all.

I'm now trying to get hold of Bridgestone again and getting zero response.
